Here are my brief notes from the DVC Annual Meeting.

2009 Budgets were adopted

Audit Presentation by the external auditors

American Resort Development Associaton (ARDA) presentation. Voluntary $1 donation to the ARDA PAC. DVC has joined ARDA.

Vero Beach Easement - MGD Development wants to built on an adjacent property and wants to purchase a strip of VB land to build a driveway to State Road A1A. Will pay DVC $776,690. DVC will use some of this to construct new basketball/tennis courts; balance will be applied to reduce future dues.

Statement was made that DVC is strong financially. Average DVC member who takes out a loan to purchase has a FICO score of 710. The average default rate on loans is just 2%

The Hawaii resort will begin selling in the summer of 2011 and will open in the summer of 2012.

Jim Lewis apologized for the way the OKW extension was handled. He said the opt-out method was the wrong approach and he promised they will do things differently if other resorts are extended.

Jim Lewis mentioned how members complain that they can’t book on points but can book via cash. He mentioned they are looking at ways to reduce the number of rooms turned over to CRO during peak DVC times. He also asked members to book as early as possible.

Regarding the switch from II to RCI, he said this was due to several reasons. RCI is the largest exchange company with the most number of resorts, they have more all-inclusive resorts, they have more higher-end (such as fractional) resorts, and they have better technology. He also said RCI just negotiated a much better deal than II. He mentioned that DVC is not concerned with the class-action lawsuit against RCI, as they believe it has no merit.

Regarding housekeeping, Lewis stated that he recognizes it’s not perfect and there is an opportunity for improvement. He asked members to be patient. He also asked members that instead of writing a letter to DVC after they get back home, to complain on the spot to give DVC the ability to rectify the problems.

Mickey and Minnie Mouse made a brief appearance.

Announcement of the new DisneyNature film company which will focus on nature documentaries. The first film will be called Earth and will be released on Earth Day 2009.

They replayed the Dee Vee Cee video that was released when BLT was announced. They mentioned the Travel Channel show on DVC. They played a video of the DVC SS Member Cruise. They mentioned how AFV is offering a DVC membership as a grand prize this year.

They mentioned how DVC placed #1 in hospitality in the Media Matrix ratings, and how 91% of DVC members are extremely or very satisfied with their membership.

They mentioned how DVC members would be able to take advantage of the new Online Check-in.

The various DVC GM’s discussed what upgrades they’ve completed in 2008, and what’s coming in 2009. VB mentioned a soft goods refurb that is underway, as well as flat panel TVs. HHI also mentioned flat panel TVs. BWV talked of room refurbs and flat panel TVs. VWL talked of flat panel TVs and new patio furniture, and also highlighted the completed soft goods refurb. BCV talked of a soft goods refurb. An OKW refurb is scheduled for 2010. The feature pool at SSR will be refurbed next year.

WDI Resort Projects discussed the ongoing construction at Kidani Village, Treehouse Villas (Jim Lewis made a side comment that when his boss first approached him and asked him to turn the old treehouses into a DVC project, he was less then thrilled), BLT, VGC, and Hawaii.

That’s all I have, as I had to run out to catch MVMCP.

Thanks Mike.

I really appreciate you taking notes for those of us not visiting the mouse.

Hmmm....Jim Lewis didn't like the treehouses?? I personally think THV adds appeal to SSR ownership.

Was any mention made of the future subsidy for non-extenders at OKW?

Sorry I missed you Mike. I was in the front left of the floor.

One other note if I may. Jim Lewis hinted to a second "Doorway to Dreams" opening in the New York City area.

Thanks Mike, this is the next best thing to being there :thumbsup2!!!

We appreciate your taking the time to post & have a great trip :goodvibes

Thanks for the in-depth recap, Mike. Very kind of you to take the time to attend the meeting and post so quickly while you're on vacation. :thumbsup2

Hmm, we have a great big new mall, (well they call it a shopping and entertainment complex) opening in the spring here in NJ, just 10 miles outside NYC. IT's called Xanadu, but most of the locals just call it hideous. There's an indoor ski slope, the largest ferris wheel in north america, the largest movie theater in north america, a sky diving simulator and more.

Sounds like the perfect place for a Doorway to Dreams.

Thanks for the info Mike.

And thanks ADP, your post made me jump in my seat! I don't know whether to cheer :yay: or be scared :scared1: I'd love to see a Doorway to Dreams (we're under an hour from NYC) but would be afraid that the addonitis bug would hit too hard!

Now I'm wondering which mall they'll pick--maybe Roosevelt Field, 5 minutes away from us, one of the biggest in the Northeast? Of course there are loads of malls in Westchester, Rockland and New Jersey as well that are likely candidates... :confused3

OTOH, they might be putting it in World of Disney in Manhattan--I think I heard that there was going to be some kind of major refurb there?

Thanks for the recap Mike:goodvibes

Did he mention anything about the new reservation system....Is it working well?
Thanks
Kerri

Thanks Mike.
Glad to hear an acknowledgment of the mousekeeping issues. Just goes to show you that at least our letters are getting some attention. Keep writing.

Mike thanks for taking the time out of your day to report to us! Hope you enjoyed the party last night.:thumbsup2

Thanks for the update, Mike! I know they are boring, but I really like going to those meetings!

Thanks Mike! Glad to hear him address some concerns. Hope you're right about NYC DTD!! Although, I'm with PP, I think it may cause constant, chronic addonitis!:rotfl:

Thanks Mike...

Any details about Grand California Villas??

That was my question. Seems they have more info about opening for Hawaii which hasn't built anything than GCV which looks nearly done.
