DVC and park tickets

Just wondering - How does park ticketing work when you are using DVC points for your room reservation? We have always done the Disney vacation packages that include the room keythat is also a park ticket. Everything gets paid for all at once.

You will have to purchase tickets by either:
1. Purchase at time of check in
2. Purcahse ahead of time thru Disney website
3. Purchase ahead of time thru a reseller like Undercover Tourist.

Which ever you choose the tickets can be added to your room keys.

It really depends on what type of tickets you will be using....

what if you are using an AP? Is that added to your room key or is that a separate ticket you carry?

APs are separate. It's not that bad to carry both the room key and ticket. I have a lanyard I use that I add Fast Passes to as I accumulate them.

How do you handle AP's with young kids? Do the parents have to tote them around, too?

Same as you would their park tickets or room keys.

We have girl/boy twins, so I usually carry DD's and DH carries DS's. I usually hold onto all the FP though, in a lanyard like PP mentioned.

If i buy tickets through the military can they be added to the KTTW too?

We will arrive at Disneyland on Sunday. This will be our first stay at the VGC. Do the room keys there work like they do at WDW? Will they double as our tickets and can we make purchases with them?

Nope room keys at DL are just room keys (though you can charge to them). You carry your tickets/APs separately.
I find the idea of carrying everything on your room key as everything a little scary since if you lose it everything needs to be replaced, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. =P

The cheapest place I believe to get tickets is from the "secret" link to Undercover Tourist through mousesavers.com's newsletter. You have to go sign up for it at mousesaver's website and it's only sent out the 15th of each month. I hate spam, but I enjoy reading the newsletter as it's pretty good at keep me up to date on what's going on at Disney.

Undercover Tourist is great. We've used them several times and are extremely reputable.

Once you're at Disney, your resort concierge can transfer your paper tickets (either military or otherwise) to your room key if you prefer. Word of caution though, make sure to not throw away the paper ones if you do. Disney's high tech computer system messed up the transfer of one of my tickets and wiped it out. It helped greatly that I could produce the original ticket number for them to see since the plastic KTTW doesn't show the ticket number once transferred.

Don't let my horror story scare you into not transferring it though. For our troubles (and it was a lot of trouble!) Disney gave me 12 Park Hopper Non-Expiring tickets for future use which made us more then happy.
