DVC and Dining Plan/Tickets???

We have been thinking about DVC for almost a year and feel pretty positive about taking the plunge, but have 2 more questions for you

1. Are there any discounts on dining plans for DVC owners? Can you purchase a dining plan for your stay?

2. Are there discounts for APs or MYW tix?

APs are discounted by $100 (great perk!!). . .no discounts on MYW. . .no discounts on the DDP, but we are able to purchase it.

I buy a 10 day non expiring pass with a hopper option I normal get 2 years out of it ..

My trip are for about 10-14 day twice a year but I do not go in the parks every day as I have done it for over 13 years now..

I get the DDP at 37>99 per person and I do just fine even with the changes I save roughly about 45-75 a day depending where I eat.

We heard about free APs from somewhere and then to "keep" the APs found that there was a discount on renewals. We also went when they had free dining and now really want to have a dining plan when we go next.

That AP renewal rate is something that needs to be calculated. If you have a period of time (I calculated it once, I can't remember how long, less than 3 months for sure) that you do not go to WDW, it is better to let the AP expire and then get a new one.

We don't even take advantage of the discounted AP many years.

They just change. In the beginning, members got free tickets (limited number based on the occupancy of the lodging) until about 2000 (but they had to buy in before 1997). Then we got discounts on Length of Stay tickets, but not APs or PAPs. Now we only get discounts on APs and PAPs. There are discounts on waterparks, Pleasure Island, Cirque, etc, but sometimes are limited to certain days, times. Dining discounts change all the time. When the DDP first came out, DVC members were not able to get the plan. Now we can. But the plan has changed and along with it, our ability to get the plan.

Discounts change. The AP discount has only been around for a year or two. Don't buy thinking they will stay the same all the time.

This year we can buy the regular or deluxe plan. If your trip is in 2008, you should be able to get either. We'll have to wait and see about 2009 but I can't think of any reason the ability to book it will change now that it has been offered.

Of course, the dining plans may change. Price has changed a bit and this year the appetizer and tip were removed from the regular DDP. Tip is not included in the deluxe either.

Oh, and we can also purchase the wine addon. I wonder how many people have done that. We should have asked one of our servers last month if many people were using it.

Thanks BCV23. Our trip is early 2009 and my family would like to try the DDP now that DVC members can get it. It will be our first time ever doing it. I saw something mentioned about getting it 11 months out and I was wondering about that since we are booking at the 7 month window.

Sorry I misinterpreted your question. If it is available to members in 2009, you will be able to book it. I think it's summer or fall before details are announced so there's a good chance you won't be able to book it when you reserve. I don't know if MS can make a note to add it when it becomes available.

But you can add it (or remove it) up to 48 hours before you check in. Or at least that's the current rule for DVC.

With just two of you, it won't be that bad - but if you're used to packages and free dining, be prepared for a little sticker shock.

For our family of 4 - AP's are close to 1,500 a year and the DDP was around 1,000 for our last five day trip.

We paid around 3,000 for a 7 night MYW plus dining package prior to joining DVC - and find we absolutely spend more now than we did pre-DVC (we vacation more too - but tickets and dining are a big chunk of change every year)
