DVC 6th year Christmas Tree, Sharing a Little DVC Holiday Magic

Woo hoo! :yay: :yay: :dance3:
I am soooo excited!! Thanks so much for doing this!!! I can't want to see the tree!!!

I hope everything turns out. I started to ship it decorated but, ...that's half the fun!!

I found lots of Disney characters, some clowns (clown pool), carousel horses, cupcakes (Boardwalk Bakery) a gold star and some red beads. This was my first year but, I think things will turn out fine. Take pictures guys!!

Thanks Jim

This is a new tree. Had to retire the old one. The tree was still in good shape, but the box was frazzled. Tried to find a new box, but all the cardboard boxes that were out there wouldnt fit or werent substantial enough to hold up to shipping.

Hope you folks have a great trip and wonderful Christmas!

Jimmy

Hi Jimmy,

Sorry to hear you were unable to get a box. There is a place here in town that sells all different sizes of boxes, tape, bubble wrap, etc... This is where I bought my 12"x12"x48" box that I trimmed down to 40". I think they sell a 40" one but couldn't remember what I bought last year. I pack the tree with the box within the larger box. The box held up pretty good last year being shipped both ways, but I figured it would be better to buy a new one than re-use the old one.

Fed-Ex charged 21.61 for my box that weighed 27 lbs.

Hope you and your family have a great trip as well.

Elf Jim.:santa:

so it was not that much off...wonder if it was the 31lbs. :santa: had to make sure everything was included.....:rotfl: I am a Christmas nut, now I better get a room with place to hang my lights for all to see :rotfl2:

Hey Cheri,

You beat me by 4 lbs, what do have in there a couple of fruit cakes, lol

Have a great trip and a Merry Christmas.

Hey Jim, Haven't talked much lately. Are you cleared from Ike? I know DH's job is suffering from UTMB closing but we are still going. I haven't heard from Maribell so I hope the tree got there.

Happy holidays

We had Jim's tree last year and he's not lying! I couldn't believe how much stuff was in that box!!

Hi Good Ol Gal,

Thanks for the complement. I try to include enough to decorate a larger room since we usually stay in a studio.

Hey since we will be down at VWL at the same time we will have to meet up.

Elf Jim.

Hey Bopsmom,

We are doing fine, not too much damage from Ike. I have replaced the fence, need to replace the roof and fix the sheetrock in a few spots where we had minor leaks. I am hoping to get the roof replace before we leave but it hasn't leaked anymore since Ike. Did you have much damage?

Sorry to hear about your DH's job, I saw a news story a lot of the people from UTMB were already finding jobs in Houston. Glad to hear you are still going to WDW.

Have a great trip and Merry Christmas,

Elf Jim.

Hey Cheri,

I dont put that much in a box, well maybe I do, LOL. Glad I could help out with your tree box packing. Ohhh a door mat and stocking I will have to maybe add them next year.

Elf Jim.

We went to UPS today to ship our tree and decorations and were quoted $80!!! :scared1: Yikes! On to plan B- we are packing it all in an extra suitcase and paying to have that extra bag, since that will be cheaper than shipping it. I think it was so expensive b/c we want it there by 11/29, but UPS doesn't deliver Thursday or Friday of next week so we would have to pay to get it there sooner. Oh, well! We will head to the FedEx store when we are down there and get a box and a prepaid shipping label. Hopefully, it will cost much less to get it back here, since it won't matter how long it takes!

Hey Bopsmom,

I see we are down at WDW the same week so maybe we could meet up sometime, just let me know.

Hi kitsch4,

Did you try Fed-Ex? How much did your box weigh, and size?

Elf Jim.

Hi, Elf Jim. I have no idea about the weight. Our tree is in the original box and we were going to buy another box from UPS to put the tree and decorations in to keep them together. I think we were both so shocked when she gave us the price (which was without adding in the cost of the box or packaging) that we didn't think to ask about the weight. I told dh to check FedEx, but he thought they would be about the same. He thinks that the easiest thing to do would be just to take it all down with us at this point.

Hi Kitsch4,

What is your zip code and I can check?

Elf Jim.

Hey Bopsmom,

Elf JIm.

PM me, we are planning dinner at VWL on Christmas Eve, maybe a hayride to see the fireworks would be a good place to meet up.

Hi Kitsch4,

I found the zip code for Akron Ohio. I plugged in the info of 20 lbs, 6"x6"x36" box shipped out today using Fed-Ex ground and it would arrive in end of the day in 3 business days for $12.76. I put in Monday and and to get it there by 11/28/08 it would be $40.73. You go to the Fed-Ex website and enter the information.

Hope this helps,

Elf Jim.

:rotfl2: Jim you are the master of packing a Christmas box, I remember trying to get it all back in after using the stuff :rotfl: :rotfl:

I took pictures of the steps when we unpacked so I could remember how it came out... but I still stressed that I wouldn't get it all back in it!

We're always in a 2 bedroom and it was nice having all that extra stuff... we knew our balcony b/c it was the only one lit up with lights.. our door was the only one with a decoration on it.

It was very nice, and I'm so excited b/c this year we'll actually be there at Christmas!

Last year we got strange looks b/c it was only Thanksgiving :rotfl:

kitsch4 i dont ship thru UPS just fedex its half the cost plus fedex you get free $50 or $100 insurance on your box. i asked fedex about a pre paid shipping label (what a great idea) but i was told if i have a an account i can purchase one online. :confused3 i think the girl was new, because she had to pull out her manual to see if she can ship a fresh/real tree :rotfl: :lmao:
i told her it was fake, she insisted that the tree box stated "BCV Tree #1 christmas tree" so it must be real.:lmao: poor child. By the way if you were interested anyone, fedex can ship a real tree:thumbsup2 :rotfl: :lmao:

Hi wdwstar,

My Fed-Ex person was not as bad, when I set the box up there she said "can I get in the box" and I said "why" and she said "because it going to WDW".

Yes, free insurance up to $100 dollars, if it over that then they start to charge small fee.

Elf Jim.
