DVC 25th Anniversary Perks

Years ago my DH worked at GM and we enjoyed the lounge they offered workers. We go to the Chase Lounge when one is offered. I like the Imagination Pavillion and I will use the lounge when it is operational! Maybe they could sweeten the deal and give bracelets for Illumintion viewing sometime, but I am happy with what's offered.

Though I'm not quite as strongly with you on this point...

But there were two articles - at least - published in the last week about not only the rising numbers of DVC defaults/foreclosures...but also the investors who buy them are quoted that they are overpriced/value is not there anymore. One was in the sentinel on Saturday - I believe.

Going from $85 a point to $160 a point in roughly ten years (it might be less) is another dangerous move that could blow up on them. They are leaning on their prices in the swamp too much...

And now with the Chinese economy, ESPN, and Paris takeover...they are in a bit of a shaky scenario where they may try to turn the screws even more.

There just isn't as much widespread wealth in the upper Midwest and the eastern seaboard - still the backbone of the wdw clientele - that there once was. When you build a middle
Class resort...you are gonna have problems without a middle class.
The Force Awakens has grossed $1.5 billion (worldwide) in a mere 3 weeks and climbing (Frozen was in the $1.2 range) so not all is bad with the mouse.

I guess I don't expect huge discounts and "freebies" at all. But when they're going to advertise one, don't embelish what it is. It's a $10 discount, less than 5% off. If it works out for people great, it's better than 0%. What would be nice is if they'd just do an across the board discount. 10% off MYW passes, or 5% MYW passess. Or a tiered system, but just something established like the 10% merchandise discount through the AP or Chase VISA.

The $10 is great for the casual DVC member who doesn't think to check things like Undercover Tourise or Tickets at Work.

Box office is 14% of the revenue for Disney...merchandising a shocking low 9%

Parks? 31%...Paris and its problems now tied to that

"Broadcast media"? 40%
And what is about 80% of that number? ESPN And they are scared poopless about it.

Bob Iger said a 3 second line in August...basically "ESPN is down a little"...and the stock lost 22% of its value.

Things are actually a lot WORSE than I let on.

Truth is in the numbers.

So I just visited the page to check out the entire list of events/specials. Only thing we can take advantage of for our mid March trip is the free button and photo op. Oh, and we can enter the sweepstakes contest.

The ticket offer also is kind of useless, we got ours through UT a few months ago (5-day MYW ticket for the price of a 4-day) when our Canadian dollar was at a better rate than now.

The $200 ticket was "worthless" to me. One entrance to each park and no way to upgrade to extra days? It was pointless for most people.

Agreed...but this one is a whole different brand of "are you serious"?

As Pointed out on another thread...the general public actually gets a better deal.

Anybody want to boycott and bombard DVC with complaints with me?

...of course not...that would likely cause change that would help everyone.

I'm hesitant to say anything about how the deal isn't valuable since you can get as good/better deal through other venures for fear they'll just shut down the other venues. I'd rather always have UT as an option versus an occasional option from a Disney handout.

Of couse Disney knows all this already, they're very aware of what vendors offer what pricing. I just hate to draw attention to it and give any more reason for them to take something away... :scared:

The waterparks option makes it worth it for me and my family

I have looked at other venues to buy tickets and this deal still saves us money

Third party ticket brokers have already been all but eliminated...I'm not entirely sure AAA even does it anymore. They don't do them in the Disney stores anymore.

UT will have its day too...

"Fire away"'and "let it burn"...I say...

Well, we had not planned on going to WDW again this year. Makes 2 years in a row for us. When I saw the specials I thought maybe this year. But no. The specials are laughable, IMHO. $10 value for an add on to a multi-day ticket? Have to purchase by March 31st? Sounds like you need to be there are pick it up by then in person. Not going to happen. Complimentary party at MK from 9:30 to midnight with select attractions open in Tomorrowland and Fantasyland? Plus the Haunted Mansion and a dance party. Ha, ha. Not worth trucking my family of 4 to Florida. Nothing that I could see at Disneyland, either, which is now our most loved park.

So, looks like our plan to go to Aulani in April and skip WDW again this year is still on. Perhaps we will be able to get our special pin there and our new DVC member cards will come in the mail. Oh, and I can enter a contest to maybe win a magical trip. Um, call me cynical.

But there were two articles - at least - published in the last week about not only the rising numbers of DVC defaults/foreclosures...but also the investors who buy them are quoted that they are overpriced/value is not there anymore. One was in the sentinel on Saturday - I believe.

The crux of the Sentinel story was that interest in--and bidding on--DVC foreclosures is more popular than ever. The individual quoted as saying that he/she doesn't speculate in foreclosures anymore was driven out by the higher volume of bidders and reduced margins on those transactions.

Number of foreclosures isn't rising to any alarming degree. If memory serves, the Sentinel quoted figures of 1400 contracts per year in 2011 and 2012, a dip to 700 in 2013, and then up to 900 in '14 and '15.

DVC foreclosures are a curious thing because they do tend to hold their value so well. A colleague showed me an example of one wholly-owned SSR contract (no mortgage) which was foreclosed upon over $180 in unpaid dues. That makes no sense whatsoever from the owner standpoint, and leaves me wondering how many of these foreclosures are borne of ignorance.

Going from $85 a point to $160 a point in roughly ten years (it might be less) is another dangerous move that could blow up on them. They are leaning on their prices in the swamp too much...

Maybe. Timeshares have always feasted on the uninformed--specifically those who aren't aware of resales.

It's still quite easy to demonstrate the value of a DVC purchase, even at $165 per point. Buyers aren't being sold a bill of goods. Those high priced resorts (Grand Flo, Poly) are even holding their resale value quite well.

Biggest issue is that resales are available as a much cheaper alternative.

I think DVC will keep chugging right along with modest, if unspectacular sales. The real challenge will come when the next major economic downturn occurs. Even more contracts will flood the resale market since there are now so many more in existence. And Disney will have to seriously discount to sell anything "new." (Note they dipped under $90 per point for Bay Lake Tower during the '08 recession.)

Some of you all need a Whaaaaaaambulence. I mean seriously. You bought a TIMESHARE.....no matter what you think you should get, should be offered, should be done, all you get is a room with the points you purchased and pay dues on. Disney is not in the handout business, or make you feel good about your purchase business. They are in a "make profit" business. period. IF you can get a better deal by going to UT....they go to UT! stop complaining. It's not an insult....it's a sales tactic for the uninformed who don't know about UT....and surprisingly that's a very high number. It's an attempt to get you to take a trip you otherwise wouldn't have gone. Aren't going that time and not planning on it because of this? Great! No one cares. I'm happy we have a trip planned when one of these are occurring. Something extra I hadn't planned on.

I suspect that many of those "I understand what I bought but it would be nice to get a bone" clearly don't understand what they purchased. A PP stated that the goal of DVC was to get frequent visitors back in the parks, restaurants, etc. I'm thrilled with my purchase, and look forward to more resort only trips with my wife in the future.

I think one thing NOT mentioned here about the ticket deal is that there is no timeframe for activation. You can buy it now and hold it for 5 years if you want. Sure is it similar to UT? Probably. But as we are all aware of price increases, it's not the worst idea ever to prepurchase a ticket for the future. Today's price for tomorrow's trip.

HA more BS i forgot you can already get free soda in epcot (international soda).....and we did not need to drop 20k on a timeshare!

Oh goodie....the "it's just a timeshare" rolled in...right on schedule.

Customer loyalty and commitment...is still a real thing.

When anybody says "all YOU bought is a timeshare"...even if I often agree with that...you identify YOU speak from a position of relative lack of knowledge.

AAA still sells the tix as of December. I told my friends to buy the tix there as they were slightly cheaper than UT.

Us too. We already made our plans for the year. The extra events are great but not something that will make me book an extra trip.
I have four trips booked in 2016 and none fall on any of those times. Personally, the events and perks are all pretty much worthless to me.

I think a piece of cake once a week in the Community halls would have gone a long way. And skip all the rest of these perks.
