DVC 25th Anniversary Perks

I don't think many of us actually dispute price increases...everyone knows things are always gonna go up...

But I have been on the warpath about their pricing policies since the 2008 crash in particular. It's beyond good taste and I argue good business sense.

A 32% net increase in annual passes in a year and added restrictions of some tickets hasn't put me in a very "festivus" mood this holiday season.

Then you need to do what other folks are doing -- cut back

Personally for me, the one that hurt the most was getting rid of the non-expiry option

I do not see us purchasing annual passes because we never reach the break even point

If enough folks cut back, they will feel it

Already have...

Many food locations haven't seen me since the price increase rolled out during and after the dining plan.

Very little merch is ever touched since the consolidated it 15 plus years ago into even more Chinese faire...

And we have gone to a voluntary "every other" year travel schedule or somewhere in that neighborhood.

The problem is - if you read enough of this internet chatter - you realize just how clustered vast parts of the customer base are...

Like "may I have another?" Types. Similar to US elections - voting exactly opposite their own self interests...only with their wallets.

For some Disney (DVC) can do no wrong

However, the parks were full this past week and surprisingly folks are willing to pay $100 to wait on line two hours for a two minute ride

They're never had a problem getting people into the magic kingdom at Christmas...

The question is will I spend 15-25 days on average in dvcs in the off peak times? Or would they prefer I dump it?

I can say 100% that they'll die on that hill if that were ever to occur.

they just need to stop! call it what it is a time share and move on....these perks are insulting. wow a free day that costs 10 bucks super sweet........thanks for literally nothing....why not give us TIW or something we could actually save money on. don't get me started on the events oh wow one day here and there that is super convenient for me for my 1 time a year trip let me move it so i can feel the DVC love......and a night in the MK wow again what great notice you gave all of us....in 2 months i bet there is tons of availability for me to get my family down for it.......congrats to the people who have booked during then all about 1% of the dvc community. OH SNAP free soda in epcot! wow thanks again for nothing....sorry all i love disney i love going but i am just tired of them acting like this is some sorta of family.....the members on the board are a family with each other not with DVC corporate. i could go on and on about this but i will end it here......happy new year all cant wait for the 50th maybe we will save 15 bucks off a ticket!

There is no mention of a use by date for the DVC MYW tickets... would it be safe to say we can buy and not use until spring 2017? I do not see any blackout dates either

Wow, this post is so negative and dripping with sarcasm I can't help but say something. I think this post YOU wrote in October answers exactly why Disney doesn't need to give much away in extra perks.:-)
I think people are negative be they feel entitled to something that they don't deserve. They compare it to back in the 90s when it started and members got free passes and what not disney was trying something new and was not sure if it was going to work so the juiced the pot. Well now it works and works well so they don't need to give out so many perks. It's like hearing my parents when we went to a movie it was .25 cents god now for the iMax Star Wars tickets I bought it was 18.75! Gosh every single year until the Disney stops functioning they will increase the price. I guess it comes down to if you still like it as much any everyone hates spending money on things they don't like. I know the state of my disney Union is very strong I don't mind the price increases hope it keeps the crowds down!!!!!

I posted this on the other thread about perks. But here its is:

So the special ticket offer is worthless!!!! Basically if you buy any ticket over 4 days you get 1 day free and if you add the park-hopper option you get water parks&more for free. Tickets must be purchased between 1/4/16-3/31/16 (not sure on the end date). They can be activated at any time - I take it there is no limit unlike the $200 4day ticket special they had.
Limit of 8 tickets per member.

So here is the breakdown I did so far:
Adult 5day base $335.48 --- DVC adult 4day+1 base $324.83 = savings of $10.65
UCT adult 5day base $322.95 = savings of $12.53
Adult 5day hop&more $431.33 --- DVC adult 4day+1 hop+more $392.99 = savings of $38.34
UCT adult 5day hop&more $410.95 = savings of $20.38

Child 5day base $314.18 --- DVC child 4day+1 base $303.53 = savings of $10.65
UCT child 5day base $301.95 = savings of $12.23
Child 5day hop&more $410.03 --- DVC child 4 day+1 hop+more $371.69 = savings of $38.34
UCT child 5day hop&more $389.95 = savings of $20.08

With each additional day added the savings are the same for gate price v. dvc
I don't see how this is a benefit at all, I can get the same price or better from undercover tourist.

Worthless is a bit of a stretch. Yes, you could get a similar deal from Undercover Tourist. But you can use discounted gift cards to purchase from Disney. Sure, a $10 discount isn't much, but it's more than nothing.

To me it is not a stretch - it is worthless and an insult. I'd rather them not even offer this at all. The special 4day-4park tickets for $200 was a better deal, even with the limited time activation. This is supposed to be a big celebration promo and it feels like an afterthought. The DVC special events are better than this - like the MK bash is like a MVMCP or MNSSHP which each cost about $70. But unless you planned to be there at the right time you're SOL.

It's "Nearly" worthless in the context of the the costs to enter wdw...even with long ago paid for, "cheap" DVC rooms on points.

i mean i am ok with no perks......i am just insulted in the perks they gave like its so awesome...that is my point....

Yep...you summed it up for me...I don't feel I'm entitled to a discount.

I'm insulted they are gonna kill another tree and send me more glossy promo materials telling me it is a discount.

Maybe academically...not in spirit.

Today will be the first time I ever lodge a complaint with DVC. I tried to sleep on it...but I can't shake it. For $10.65 a person.

It's a laughing/crying visceral repsonse.

its 10000% a scam for new people to feel better about the extremely large purchase they just made....if they really really cared about members they would do the MK night 2 times a month for a whole year so people could actually use it but we all know that has a zero chance if happening.....just call a spade a spade.....

Though I'm not quite as strongly with you on this point...

But there were two articles - at least - published in the last week about not only the rising numbers of DVC defaults/foreclosures...but also the investors who buy them are quoted that they are overpriced/value is not there anymore. One was in the sentinel on Saturday - I believe.

Going from $85 a point to $160 a point in roughly ten years (it might be less) is another dangerous move that could blow up on them. They are leaning on their prices in the swamp too much...

And now with the Chinese economy, ESPN, and Paris takeover...they are in a bit of a shaky scenario where they may try to turn the screws even more.

There just isn't as much widespread wealth in the upper Midwest and the eastern seaboard - still the backbone of the wdw clientele - that there once was. When you build a middle
Class resort...you are gonna have problems without a middle class.
