Duty free on the way out when flying indirect

We are flying indirect for the first time next week and wanted to get some Pims at duty free ( only recently converted to this - at Wimbledon, and thought it would be nice long drink by the pool) if I buy this at heathrow I know it will be fine when we land at Newwark, but what about our internal flight will we be allowed to carry this on, I have never bought drink on the way out before only perfume/ toiletries. Thank you

It's absolutely fine, we've done it a few times when connecting.

I'm not so sure? You still have to clear security at Newark, and the 100ml limit is still in force isn't it? We have done this before, but packed the bottle into our hold luggage before re-checking it for the internal flight, just take some bubble wrap and a sealable bag, but it should be fine. In my experience, they don't re-weigh the luggage when you recheck it, it just straight onto another carousel.

Yes this makes more sense too me. You collect your luggage before you do the bag drop at EWR so you can slip it into the checked luggage then. I don't think it would be allowed through security at EWR. There is only an exception to this if you proceed from one flight to another without going through the customs area or luggage collection.

you will not be allowed to go through security at Newark with liquids exceeding the 100ml limit

if you buy it at Heathrow (past security) you'll be allowed to carry it on the plane for your international leg

once you land in Newark, as soon as you get your luggage from the carousel, place the bottles inside your suitcase.
then proceed through customs and recheck your luggage at the baggage drop just after customs.

If you don't do that, TSA (security) will confiscate the bottles when you enter the next terminal

as foreign visitor, you MUST clear Immigration and Customs at your point of entry in the USA.
This means you need to collect your luggage, and by doing so you are outside of the "sterile area" since you've had the opportunity to retrieve a forbidden item from your suitcase (allowed in the hold but forbidden in the cabin)
so you need to clear security again and the liquids rules apply again

I am assuming you meant Pimms and not Pima - if so be warned its not the same made with sprite which you need to use in the US as they don't have fizzy lemonade.

We bought in the airport here in the uk and flew indirect to Newark when you show them your boarding pass when you are purchasing they put it in a sealed clear bag with a note saying what it is where it is from etc. we had no problem what so ever. Obviously you can't open it till you arrive in Mco. X

My daughter bought a bottle in duty free last year at MCO when leaving, sealed in a bag and given to us as we boarded the plane. Our luggage went direct to Edinburgh so no chance to put into hold baggage at Gatwick but it was allowed through security in Gatwick no problem.

Unlike me who forgot I had an opened bottle of coke in my hand baggage and I was pulled out and my bag swabbed while my daughter smirked from afar

Thank you for your replies, I think that I will take along some bubble wrap and large ziplock bag and put it in my checked luggage at Newark. I was going to put some of my hand luggage into one of the cases then so this will not be too much of a hassle.
