Durable dutch oven thats affordable?

I was sorry when Costco discontinued the round dutch ovens. I, too, prefer them over oval. The Kirkland brand is made by Staub in France. Excellent quality stuff.

Amazon has the lodge 6 quart in Cafe Brown for $50 with prime right now. Other colors are higher priced.

I have the costco kirkland brand which is made in france and it is excellent. I have the round one and the grill pan. We use the grill pan all the time.

The dutch oven was last one on the shelf and cost me about $30 marked down - the grill pan was about 40 to 50...

Daughter bought the oval dutch oven and didn't like it as well as my round one.

I just read that Lodge, who is supposed to be an American company, imports the enameled pieces from CHINA.

I would not buy anything made in China that I cook food in.

Stick with Le Creuset or Staub.

It's more expensive but at least you know it's safe.

I have a Lodge brand one and it is awful. It is only a year old and food stuck to the bottom of it and I can not get it cleaned. Not sure if they changed the quality or I got a bad one. I would not buy another one. It is the blue color.

Mine is Corning Ware and I've had it for 35 years. It's like new. I love it! No idea what I paid for it but it came with a 'set' of Corning Ware-the blue flower kind.

I have a Cuisinart one - I think 5 or 6 quarts. It is round and has stood up to a lot in the last 4 years. I love it :) It's a beautiful piece that always sits on my stove, and I love making things like pulled pork, pot roast and soups in it :) I think it was $120, but I paid in GC's.

I have a Tramentino, bought it at Target years ago. It is a "best buy" from Cook's Illustrated magazine (they do the American's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country shows on PBS). It really has held up well, I love it. Cost about $50 and it's round.

I didn't know they were made by Staub. Thanks for the info :)

I have seen Tramontina (sp.) brand at The Christmas Tree shops for a reasonable price.

Costco still has the 8-qt. oval Kirkland Signature Dutch Oven on line for $89.99 (includes shipping).

I have a Staub 8-qt. oval (bought it on QVC years ago) and it cooks the same as my 9 qt. round LeCreuset.

Both are excellent ovens.

I like the Lodge products. I don't have or have used any of their enamel products but cooking with my grandma's standard cast iron is great. They are so well seasoned that they work better then any Teflon pan that I have used.

If you have a Williams and Sonoma outlet near you sign up for their email list and several times a year they do 50% off, plus some outlets offer a preferred coupon book and mine offers an additional 15% off. I've gotten several pieces of Le Creuset for great prices

Le Creuset has outlet stores, too. They stock seconds (labeled) and some first quality items. The seconds are missing a speck of enamel on the lid or on the pot. More than half the time you can't even locate the flaw. I've purchased a couple of pieces this way. One 2.75qt soup pot for $90 and a 5qt wide french oven for $125.

If you're not picky about where your cast iron enamelware is manufactured, Macy's has the Martha Stewart versions on sale right now. You can get an additional 20% off by using the code TICKET. They also ship free over $99.

I have several Le Creuset ovens, both round and oval. They are extremely heavy. I have tendonitis and cannot lift one empty without pain, much less filled. I adore my All Clad, but it's not coated at all. Well worth the $$$, I swear by the stuff!

I was mistaken about Staub. They are actually made by Fontignac, which is another foundry in France that's been producing cast iron ovens for nearly 90 years.

We have two lodge and two Martha Stewart brand ones. I like both for cooking different things. We have had them for quite awhile and have held up.
