Dumb Newbie Question on Renting Points

As a non-member just renting points from others, do I need to rent all my points in one shot from one member ?

For example, I need 270 pts for September, 2006. Can I rent 100 here, 100 there and another 70 there over the course of the next few weeks, months and then combine them to make a reservation requiring 270 pts ?

The reason I think you "can't" do this is what if the three people I rent have different "home resorts". Then what happens with the 7 and 11 month advance booking window ? Or do I fall into the 7 month group automatically by renting points ?

You cannot make reservations -- only a member can. Therefore, that member must have, in their own account, all the points you'll need. You could structure a complex deal with several members, all-but-one of which would transfer the points you need into the other member's account, and then that member can go forward and make the reservation for you. I'm not sure you'll find many members willing to go that far out of their way for you, though.

Possible, but highly improbable to get a bunch of owners together. At the very least, you would need to rent all your points from people who own at the same home resort, unless you are making your ressie less than 7 months from the date of travel. Then you have to have all of them decide who can have the points transferred into their account so the ressie can be made by that owner. Since we are only allowed to transfer points one direction in a given year, that could be a bigger problem than it originally appears.

Since you are at the mercy of someone making the ressie for you, this would be a LOT of hassle for all concerned. My advice is to look for someone who has enough points to rent all to you at once, or let one renter make the bulk of the ressie, and rent from someone else for the rest, and have the two ressies linked. Not even sure that is a LOT easier, but it is possible.
