can we put cans of pop in our suit case to be checked? will they explode?
will tooth paste explode?
can you put diposable razors in checked luggage?
can i take my nebulizer (breathing treatment machine)in check suit case?

thanks for not laughing!!! lol ºoº

Everyone has a first some time, so they aren't dumb questions, especially with the world these days, airplane travel has changed a lot.

Cans of pop - I don't know about this one, but... there is a weight limit on luggage, 50 lbs on most airlines, and if you go over they fine you, $50 on some airlines each direction it is over!

Toothpaste - no it shouldn't explode, but I pack anything that could leak, or is liquid (shampoo etc.) in ziplock bags, that way if they do leak, it just makes a mess in the bag, not on my clothes.

Anything banned such as nail files, razor, pocket knives etc, can be checked in luggage, because you don't have access to it while on the plane.

nebulizer - someone else can probably help with this, but I don't see why not

Hope these answers help, have a great trip!!!

Not too long ago it was stated that beverages and food (especially chocolate) should not be put in checked luggage...the density of some items shows up on the baggage sreens as contraband.

Hi again Huckster. I believe most luggage compartments on planes are pressurized, so there is no need to worry about exploding toothpaste containers.

I bring most toiletry items on my carry-on and request the inspector check it visually - especially the toothpaste and mouthwash - as the thought of brushing/gargling with x-rayed toothpaste/mouthwash is not appealing...

Have a great first flight!

Huckster,

A big noooooo on soda in the luggage. With the change in pressure, they are likely to explode. Wait until you get where you are going and then purchase your soda.

As to your nebulizer, absolutely make sure you have it with you. All personal meds. are allowed in carry-ons and on your person.

I second kajohn's suggestion of placing anything that may leak into a Ziplock. I had my aftershave explode one and it got all over my clothes. I smelled like a french cathouse after that.

Good luck.

:D Mike

As someone that was the victim of an inconsiderate boors thoughtless actions--packing soda in a suitacase which exploded, dripped out of the suitace, leaked into mine which was loaded underneath theirs and ruined not only my suitcase (you can't get soda syrup of of luiggage fabric) but much of my clothing as well-- DO NOT DO THIS!!

As far as the nebulizer, I suggest you carry it on. Get a note from your doctor indicating that it is a medically needed device, and there will be no problem.

In general, cans of soda should be fine. The pressure is equalized within the entire fuselage, so a can in your luggage is not much different than the can your flight attendant is serving you. However, every once in a while you'll get a can that explodes due to pressure differential, defect in the can, etc. So, it's up to you if you want to take the risk.

There's some good information on this site:

TSA travel site

One thing not to put in your checked bags is undeveloped film, as the screening equipment will likely damage it. Put your film in your carry-on bags to be safe.

I would definately carry the nebulizer on with me. There is a very good chance that you will have to turn it on to prove what it is. Luggage gets lost or damaged on planes all the time. A nebulizer is too important not to have with you just in case.

BTW: They do not have nebulizers on board the ships so you are wise to bring it!

Buckaroo's Dad...Seriously, what do you think happens to X-rayed toothpaste, and mouthwash.
I'm not making any jokes, and I respect your concerns, but I do realize their are many misconceptions about x-rays.

Good question, plutospup. My best buddy traveled extensively, allowing his toothpaste and mouthwash to be x-rayed. He left - on a long trip - a Democrat. He returned a Republican! Using the process of elimination, it HAD to be the x-rays...

Buckaroo's Dad-
Whats your point? Sounds like using x-rayed Toothpaste and Mouthwash can only have a positive outcome!

Ohhhh, I hope I don't turn into a man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rae, you would turn into a "shrimp"!!!

OK Rae and Andy here we go again with the shrimp. Better to be turned into a shrimp than a man.

As far as the nebulizer, definately put that in your carry on bag and make sure you have a doctor's note describing the machine and the meds you use. My dad was given a hard time at one airport because of the meds he uses not the machine.
Razors, nail clippers and any other sharp objects are to be packed in your checked luggage. I have seen many items taken away from passengers. There is a sign when you get to most airports - if in doubt read it and put those items in your checked bags before you check-in.

remember folks you CANNOT lock your checked luggage anymore !!! so i would keep all my valuables with me !!!

Andy - the reason I'd rather be a man than a shrimp is that you'd probably Bar-B-Que me!!!!

Rae

Ohmigod! You are SO funny, :teeth: Please go on a cruise with us!!!, no on second thought, I'd probably split my side laughing with you there!!

J. :teeth:

Jeanny - thank you for the compliment! Can I bring my son along on the cruise?

Rae - Andy may B-B-Q you as a man or woman...

Buckaroo's Dad - I was nearly fried over on the Debate Board, so I take NO chances!!!!!!!!

HIDE THE SAUCE!

Actually, your soda does stand a pretty good chance of exploding, not because of pressure, but temperature. The luggage compartment is not temperature controlled the way the passenger compartment is. The likliehood that your soda will freeze, and then explode is pretty good. Buy your sodas before you go to port.

Any medications should be carried with you.
