no, I don't see them as open to life at all. They are only really open to their version of what life should be. They pay lip service to exposing the kids to this or that, and take them places, but they are absolutely NOT open to the kids having real relationships with anyone who doesn't think like them. My problem is that the girls have NO option to NOT perpetuate this lifestyle. The girls have no life skills except for those of a wife and mother. How in the world do you think one of them could choose to leave this family and strike out on thier own? They can't because they haven't been taught he skills necessary to be independent. They have been taught all their lives thatthe only acceptable role for them is daughter or wife and mother. The only acceptable suitors for these girls are those who are also part of this lifestlye. I just think they should have the choice NOT to be a part of this if they don't want to. They are being raised so that the option is taken away from them becuase they don't have any ability to strike out on thier own and make it. They have no marketable skills.

exactly.

I do find it interesting that even though we ( general we, not necessarily we on the Dis) are chastised constantly to not judge people, be accepting & respectful of how people lead their own lives, etc - that all gets thrown out when you're talking about someone with a large family. ;)

Or Christian. :sad2:

I have been fostering a baby for six months now. He was premature and addicted to the drugs his mother took when pregnant. She has five others, and she isn't even 30 years old. The state is doing and has done so much to offer help to her, but sadly, she cannot or will not accept the help.

When I see a show on the Duggars, I just sit there and smile. It is SO refreshing to see those little babies and all the others, being loved by sisters, brothers, Mom and Dad...being part of a FAMILY. And then I pray that my little guy will be surrounded by that kind of love in his forever home. I just don't understand the problem with many of you. They are functional and self-supporting. They seem happy. They aren't hurting anybody. Just because it isn't your choice doesn't make it wrong! :sad2:

Hugs to you for helping that sweet baby. :)

I don't understand the "hate" either.

No you don't have that quite right, all that gets thrown out when that large family decides to make a TV show about their large family ;)

We can agree to disagree - but I think they're attacked more for their choices in life than other families would be, even on TV. It's less about what they put on TV and more about criticizing their choices.

Of course its about criticizing their choices, but we can do that because they went ahead and made themselves reality TV stars because of those "choices". Once you want the world to see your choice (whether it be the quiverfull life, or living with a bunch of strangers while the camera rolls) you are inviting judgement of those choices, so be prepared to get the good and the bad.

ETA Forgot to add, if you think they are more attacked than other families on TV check out the Toddlers & Tiara or the Kate threads ;)

Ha, bet you don't a rash from someone about using the word "pimp" in regard to a Christian family OR from editing. ;)

I see what you're saying :) That makes sense.

 I stayed away after I saw all that, it can be brutal around here.

Is this really necessary? Must you continue to be obnoxious at every turn? Why do you feel the need?

FWIW, no I don't like the word "pimp" either. Paid endorsment would be a better comparision. They are being paid for putting thier lives on TV for public scrutiny. They have to expect that people will have opinions about it. If no one had a strong opinion either way it wouldn't be good TV. The fact that they are Christian is irrelevant.

YOU are the one who called ME a liar. Uncalled for and untrue. I think I deserve an apology.:snooty:

never called you a liar. Didn't even mean to imply that. Just said the you edited a post becuase it said that the bottom that you ineed had edited it. If you didn't and the computer made a mistake, then my apologies, but believe you siad that you did add the links I was talking about after the fact??

I think people who make the argument that the Duggar kids did not choose the lifestyle laughable.

My daughter is an only child and is being raised in a religion-free household. She did not get a vote on our lifestyle choice.

but is she free to choose her own path once she is an adult? These girls have no means to do so.

How can you say that? When they are 18 they can absolutely move out and do what they want. I don't see barbed wire and guards around their house. As far as finances and skills, many of us out here made something out of our lives with no assistance, family support or skills beyond a high school diploma. You get a job, or in my case TWO, you apply for scholarships, etc. I guess I don't understand why you are so adamant that they have no choice in their future.
