Duffy Tote Bag Help Needed

DD14 is a ginormous Duffy and Shellie May fan. She convinced us to get her a Duffy tote from Japan so she could use it for our next trip, but it is HUGE! (You could carry a small child in it.)

I started thinking and decided that we could print out Duffy and Shellie May graphics on computer-printable fabric and then turn them into a bag.

I could go one of two routes: sew the graphics onto a pre-made bag and then decorate around the edges or use the printer fabric and line it to make the bag from scratch. I could sew piping between the different pieces.

What do you think?

Hmm. Sounds great. How big of a tote does she want?
Walmart has those canvas totes that you decorate them.
I had an idea where you can put Stuffy and Shellie May on the strap itself as well as on the bag. you can make them into a patch (badge) for the strap and either sew or iron on.?.

To be able to have them seem to peer over the edge, you could draw (or trace) shelly may on the top with a line under her and then cut away the bag around her except for the part that she holds onto? (if that's possible) or create a pocket onto the canvas bag with a piece of material.

Well, we talked about it and she is really insistent on having different Duffys and Shellie Mays all the way around on the outside - which would be difficult to sew on a pre-made bag; then we found Duffy ribbon on etsy, so everything I thought has since changed.

I promise to post photos when we get it done!
