DTW to MCO
12/16 - 12/24 Price today is 247 (inc tax) round trip (X3 people). (NWA which I am totally fine with).

Do I book now or wait for SW prices to come out in June 1st?

I am okay with the price which is why I think book.. AND if they come out 200 RT (with no bag fees) I will kick myself too.

Southwest hasn't been that cheap lately. They have been priced lower for the lesser desirable flights. But that is it. You are going around Christmas, so I would probably just go ahead and book NWA. After you book, never look at prices again or you will go crazy.

I never fly to Orlando for more than 65 each way--Try Airtran. I used to fly Spirit, but now with the fees we are avoiding them.

Soutwest changed and they now don't offer a nonstop fllight (unless that changed again).

As TAKitty pointed out, SW doesn't offer nonstop from DTW to MCO anymore. So take that into consideration, too.

I booked DTW to MCO a few weeks ago for August. The cost was $68 each way. I purchased seats. For 4 of us total was about $670. It was Airtran. However, I have heard some CRAZY things about Airtran. But we are pretty flexible the day of travellling, so, the price was that important to me.

I doubt you will get that low at Christmastime. The cheapest I am seeing out of Airtran is $200 round trip in the late November timeframe. They aren't booking Christmas yet though. Airtran still has non-stop out of Flint and Detroit, but they are notorious for changing flights.

Airtran has actually never changed by flight time flying out of DTW.

We have flown during MLK holiday, President's Day, Easter, summer, and early Dec. for 65 or below each way. Granted, this isn't always with Airtran. We have used Spirit and NWA, too. I would never pay more than 150 or 160 a person going to MCO from DTW, but that's just me.

I say if you are happy paying 200 a person..go for it and don't check the prices again. :) and be happy you are going on vacation. Have a great trip!

First off, I assume you mean Delta and not Northwest as the Delta/Northwest merger is totally completed and Northwest is officially no longer in existence. $247 is not a terrible price and fares are up a bit than they were last year. I flew NWA/Delta last December, but it was in the beginning of December, and I paid $150 round trip - that included fees/taxes. I'm sure it is more to fly to Florida the closer it gets to Christmas.

I just flew to DTW to MCO over Easter and I paid $349 round trip and that was actually a really good price for that time of year. A few weeks before the trip, one of my sons wanted to come with us and the fare was anywhere from $800 to $1,200 on any given day. No way was he going to pay that, so he is going in May and asked me to come with him to keep him company. I just booked air fare last week for that May trip and I think it was $202 round trip. I had talked to my son while I was at WDW because I wanted to make a bounceback reservation and he checked air fares for me and it was only $150, but he never booked. He waited for me to get home and by then it went up to $202. I watched it for a few days and it even went higher a couple of times so when it went down to the $202, I figured that was close enough for me and I haven't checked it since then because I don't want to know if it ever went back down to the $150.

The only other airline I have flown out of DTW to MCO was Southwest, but since they don't have any non stop flights out of Detroit anymore, I just go with Delta. They have to many non-stop flights to choose from and I have never had any problems at all with Delta or Northwest for that matter.

Sorry Carol-lamb...I did mean Delta.

We're doing Airtran out of DTW and got $398 round trip for 2 adults (total, not each).

I've only flown Airtran once, and it was a good experience. Our flight did get bumped back about 1 1/2 hours from the time we booked it, but other flights have been bumped back that day, too. The POTUS is in town that day for a commencement, so the bump back puts our departure after Air Force 1 will likely be gone.

TY all. Disboards is better than Dole whips! *

I booked it. :cheer2: Today, the early flight (6:40AM) was another 170$ off total cost of 3. Out the door (with tax and all) = 629$. For us I would have paid the 799$ OTD it was good enough to book.. ICING on the cake was 629$ out the door. I will get paid 170$ to get up at about 3 AM on Christmas for an emply ME bus!

NOW I KNOW FOR SURE I can go to DISNEY IN DECEMBER.. 259 days left!

*good thing I do not have to pick one or the other!

TAKitty ~ I didn't mean your reference to NWA!! I was actually referring to the OP who mentioned Northwest in her post. I just wanted to make sure she was referring to Delta and not some other airline when she was quoting the price she got so I could tell her what I have paid for recent visits to WDW using Delta.

That's not bad - just a little over $200. Your so far out, that it might come down a little, but booking air fare can be exhausting the way the fares go up and down all the time. They say if you are comfortable with the price then to just go ahead and book.

I have taken that early flight out of Detroit several times when Northwest was still around and I actually like it because you get to WDW early in the day. I haven't been so lucky to take that flight in a couple of years and for some reason it seems lately I have been taking the last non stop flight out - it's around 7:30 - and you get in so late that all you do is just go to bed.

Another thing, Tuesdays are usually a good day to check air fares. Historically fares are a little cheaper on Tuesday and I have found good fares on Saturday evenings and Sundays too!

Congrats ! I know it feels great to be done with it. It is nice you got the first flight out. You get more touring time that first day. That flight is too early for me, I am always nervous I will miss my flight. Enjoy all the Christmas decorations.
