DtD Doubletree - Shuttle or Car to Parks?

I've heard that the shuttle service from the DtD resorts to the parks is every 30 minutes, but not that reliable. However, I've read that parking at the resort is $10/day, and I'm guessing that we'd have to pay $16/day (or however much it is now) for onsite parking on top of that.

We'd like to be able to get to the parks for rope drop. Does anyone know when this shuttle service begins daily? Is it better just to suck it up and drive?

I haven't heard that the HPB shuttles aren't reliable. I'd think they're more reliable, given that they run on an actual schedule (available at each hotel). Best I can recall, those buses start early and run late. Have you tried calling the hotel directly for accurate information?

I've been reading reviews here on the DIS, and almost all list transportation to/from the park as a "con."
