On our way to soccer practice last night, DSD said, "you know, I'm pretty sure grandma (who died last week) was with me at soccer practice last night. There was a butterfly that flew right in my face and then hung around the entire practice fluttering. I think it was grandma." She also told this to DW after practice last night and we both had the same answer when she told us--"you know, I bet you are right." I'm glad she was able to be so insightful and is dealing with her grandma being gone in her own special way.

That is so beautiful... very touching and very insightful of her. I bet it was her grandmother :)

That is such a touching story. It brought a tear to my eye.

It is amazing how children deal and find comfort. For me it is a hawk. I know it isn't actually my father but a sign. I always see one when things are tough and when ever I leave on a long road trip. The weridest was right after he died I had to drive to West Virginia with my mom he was being buried there 6 hours drive. A hawk followed us the entire way! Granted I know it wasn't the same one but when ever we looked to the right we saw one. My father was facinated with these birds! Now they give me comfort to see.
So you DSD is lucky to have such insight!

<font color=navy>DSD.... Dear sweet daughter -- that made me smile. :)

What a wonderful sentiment....

Who knows... Chris's mom could've sent that little butterfly to make your dsd smile. I like that thought.

That's so sweet! My mom actually had a similar incident happen a couple of weeks ago. She was waiting for the doctor to phone about some test results (they were checking for cancer) and after he called and gave her good news she saw a hummingbird outside her window. She's been waiting all summer to see one and this was the first. She said the first thing she thought of was that it was her dad's way of telling her everything was alright and not to worry anymore. He died in 1986 and his favorite pastime was sitting in his garden watching for hummingbirds (he was 92 years old when he died).

I think she was right.

What a lovely young lady you're raising! :)

Great story Mike. It really is amazing how kids can adjust sometimes to what life throws at them. :)

She sounds like she is a very special girl. I love the thought behind the butterfly :)

Another funny coincidence regarding these butterflies...we inturned my mom's ashes on Sunday at the cemetary and the flowers from my brother, myself and Mike; the flowers from Britt, the flowers from her sister and brother-in-law; and some flowers from my cousins and her cousins were all there. There was this monarch butterfly that kept flying back and forth amongst all the flowers. I have had yet to see a monarch all year and those are my most favorite butterflies in this area. I told Britt - I wonder if that is grandma checking out those flowers and making sure we smile today!!!! She agreed that it probably was. So I think she was right - I think mom followed was in that monarch and it followed us all the way home and has been guiding Britt the past couple of days!!!!

You never know!

Chris, that story is amazing and beautiful all in one :)

What a beautiful thought, and must have brought her comfort. Hugs to all of you...you got one special DSD.... :)
