DS with peanut/nut allergy, please help

I've been told they were peanut free. I know my local ones don't carry any donuts with nuts. I'd check and call Krispy Kreme to double check, though. The number is usually on the box.
You never know if it varies state to state. I think I went to their website once before and no donuts has nuts on them, but this has been awhile.

At Chef Mickey's the chef walked me thru with a list and said on his list Krispy Kreme was down as peanut free.

My daughter has eaten so many of these, even ones with chocolate icing on top and creme in the middle! I've even been known to take some along to parties just in case. You can buy ones with sprinkles, too.

DVCDawn,
You can also go to Krispy Kremes web page and get the ingred. for their donuts. I believe that none of the donuts have nuts. I would still check at your local KK.
But, I have been to their web.
Kris

lenshanem,
Good idea about freezing KK. My son starts Kindergarten next year and I already worry about birthday parties and cupcakes from other homes. That would be a great treat for my son. (We have a box of Zingers at Preschool, just in case.) Thanks for a different idea.

My brother has a severe peanut allergy as well. In fact, if they serve peanuts on the airplane even if he doesn't eat them or touch them he will react. He had a *terrible* time on a recent flight. He called four months in advance about 10 different people and they either trans him or said *talk to the people at he gate* When he finally got a higher up person she said *We can't tell the food service people what to serve* It was a nightmare!
Also, peanut allergies are really really tricky! Case in point- I was working the preview of Spectacle of Lights at Studios. A woman asked me about the food bc her child had a peanut allergy. I said the cookies were all next to each other (peanut butter, sugar, choc chip) so not safe, but then she asked about the hot chocolate in the carafes. I actually tracked down a food service person to get the ingredients and it did in fact state "processed in a plant that processes peanut products* Good thing she asked! I would have never thought hot chocolate could be contaminated! Just a caution to those who have this allergy!
Aloha!

So the hot chocolate served at MGM had a peanut warning on the package? :earseek: I've never seen that either - and it wasn't listed in the info I got emailed to me last summer from dining services in the parks. I would have never suspected hot chocolate but it is true that you don't know until you look. I bought a can of spinach recently that also had a "may contain peanuts" warning on it. :sad2:

Just making sure I understand you correctly! If so you should let them know to include that in the list of unsafe foods that they email out to folks with allergies.

Selket- Please help- How long did it take you to get a reply from WDW? I emailed them over 2 weeks ago, got a reply the next day that they had recieved (and thanks) but I have not heard anything from them since. I was hoping to get a reply before I started making PS's. Thanks.

Thanks LuLu- You never know what might have a warning. We bought canned apples- no warning. Same brand but with cinnimon had warning (canned apples!) We read everything.

DD 2 years also has a peanut allergy. Our trip in April will be our first with her since we discovered the allergy, and we carry an epi pen wherever we go. Thankfully, we have never had to use it. Sometimes she'll break out in hives if she's had contact with peanuts, but not anything serious. I can give her Benadryl and it goes away without a problem. I guess it's a semi good thing that DD is a really picky eater, so we bring our own foods with us, things she'll eat. But at restaurants she's ok with eating chicken, breads, mashed potatoes, or fries if i make sure they're not cooked in peanut oil.

It's a complicated thing to deal with, but with caution we've been fortunate to avoid any serious reactions. Great tips from others here! Thanks!

KYmommy - I did send you a pm answering your question but I wanted to note here too that I used the park chef's numbers that someone gave earlier in this thread and called them about dining at the parks. Then they sent me the emails. So I wouldn't wait to hear but give them a call first.

The info in the email only dealt with fast food/carts, etc and not the sit-down restaurants, fyi. For a PS ressie you need to let them know when you call what allergies/etc. you're dealing with and they will give you a # to call the chefs at each place ahead of time (at Epcot it seems you call just one number and not the restaurant directly).

My 3 yr old is peanut/tree nut allergic (highly allergic to peanuts - just touching it is a trip to the hospital) and has lesser allergies to eggs, etc. and he is also a type 1 diabetic so we do have a lot of food issues to deal with :-( On the bright side Disney is very good with helping us out!

***edited to add that I just called myself the number give for the MK dining service and the person there was very helpful. She took my email info and promised to send me info in a couple of weeks after the Easter rush is over. I think I could have waited to call perhaps 3-4 weeks from my travel date (I'm about 7 weeks out).

Thanks for such an informative thread, I was actually on the phone asking a CM the same thing today, my daughter is very severe tree nut and peanut allergy and now something else they can't pinpoint that is in sweet and sour sauce, she swells literally within 3 minutes, we actually carry a couple epi pens with us at all times. She is only 2 which makes it hard cause she is verbal but not enough to tell me, she usually starts swelling, the whites in her eyes turn red, she screams while scraping her tongue. We have had it happen a couple times now and my dr. said stick with basics now cause we can't pin point some things. So I am very concerned now because last time we were there she didn't eat anything but baby food. I am glad to hear Disney takes this seriously.

New pirate cruise...

Unfortunately, they are still serving PB&J on the GF kids' pirate cruise AND the new pirate cruise outta Y&BC. Thought ya'll might be interested in the link.

Here' my experience I just posted on there -
"I think it is the difference in everyone's comfort level. When I called about the GF pirate cruise they told me the boat would be eating PB&J, they'd serve my daughter and her sister another meal and would sit them up front. She (who just turned 7) or her sister (who just turned 4) would have to administer the Epi if she needed it. Obviously that is a joke. I totally understand them not wanting to be responsible for the Epi, don't get me wrong. BUT, if I was a CM on that boat I'd personally be freaked. Despite my daughter being disappointed, I had to pass. MY comfort level being I don't feel safe with her being out on a boat with twenty other kids eating PB&J around her and not having an Epi available if needed. She wanted to do something alone with her sister so I have them booked at the Neverland Club one night, which has now gone peanut free.

Most of the kids' programs at WDW are now peanut free. We did the tea party with Alice before and they were great! I understand PB&J being easy to transport on a boat, they could try using soy butter instead. I let my daughter eat this ONLY at home cause it looks and tastes so similar to PB. I can bet none of those kids would know the difference."

I had called Y&BC rec department and confirmed it is a PB&J cruise, too.

My 7 yo DD also has a peanut allergy. I guess I'm a little confused about whether I need to mention the allergy for every PS. I can't imagine they would do anything different in their food preparation. Could someone clarify?

My biggest fear is usually that some kids eat peanut butter, get it all over their hands and leave residue on tables, rides, etc. I need to remember wipes!!

Violetx3, you'll be fine.

My daughter has been many times and the only time she reacted was at Boma's. She does have contact reactions and we've never had a problem with her on the rides, etc.

Have fun!

It's a good idea to mention your DD's allergy when making every PS. The chefs will cook your DD's food in separate pans if necessary to avoid cross-contamination. We ate breakfast at Crystal Palace one morning. They have a pancake station where you can add chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, etc. to the pancakes. The chef told us that he would make our DD pancakes in a separate pan if she wanted pancakes. The chef at Whispering Canyon Cafe made our DD's grilled cheese sandwich in a separate pan. I have no idea what else they make that may contain nuts, but I'm glad they used a separate pan to be safe. Hope this helps!

I talked to one of the chefs at MGM yesterday and mentioned the hot chocolate with a "may contain" warning (or a processed in a plant that has peanuts or whatever) and he didn't see it noted on his info for the hot chocolate. He said they do have a lot of info at each counter service place - just ask to speak to the manager if you're dining there.

If we do hot chocolate at WDW anywhere though I'll be sure to ask to see the label - I appreciate the heads up. He said they often average about 40 people a day with special food requests (allergies, etc.) so they are rather used to it. Even so I'd be sure and note the info on every PS and call the restaurant beforehand if directed to do so, so that the chef can make preparations in advance.

Violet, the chefs do change their prep for those w food allergies. DH, DS gluten allergy, Celiac disease, 2 DN's severe anaphylaxis to peanuts. WDW made separate food, separate pans, created new dishes, changed anything, WITH A SMILE. :flower: We let them know w each PS and call 7days prior and speak w the chef. Last week I got a personal call from a chef from Ohana re: our april trip, was assured DH would have a fabulous meal. Bring wipes though and a couple epi pens. Note where the medical station is at each park. We do bring our own snacks. Relax vigilantly!

My DD9 has peanut allergy also and we travel to WDW. The CM and att Chefs have been very helpful especially at Bome in AKL. We were dining at the great buffet they have and of course the dessert offerings were fabulous. When I asked which desserts were peanut free the chef offered to make her a special dessert. He came out with the biggest and best sundae my DD had ever seen. She was thrilled. He explained that altough there were desserts on the buffet that contained nmo peanuts that he would rather be safe than sorry and prepare her's separately in case it had come in contact with any others. Everyone we checked with at any Disney restaurant was always very knowlegeable and accomodating. Have a great trip.

Glad you had a good experience at Boma, mine was just the opposite.

The chef hurriedly took me through the line, 95% of the foods I couldn't eat (I'm also allergic to tree nuts, coconuts, and scallops). He should have realized how little there was for me to eat there and offered to make me something, but he didn't. He basically left me to eat pap, it was truly about the only thing I could eat.

He also told me that there was "nothing" on the dessert bar that I could have, and never offered a substitute. I should have left without eating anything and gone to the Mara. The server brought crinks and didn't return until DH and DS had finished, and then he noticed I hadn't eaten anything but a plate of pap, which isn't exactly that good, or a meal. Then as we were ready to ask for the check, he asked if I'd like a plain chicken breast from the kitchen. I would have LOVED one, 45 minutes earlier. :guilty: :sad2:

I'll never go back there for dinner. I'm actually rather angry that they had the nerve to charge me for a dinner when I didn't eat more than a serving of pap, and angry at myself for paying for it--I should have spoken to a manager.

Anne

I'm with ducklite on Boma. The chef was actually pretty nice, but my daughter reacted to "safe" food he brought from the back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank goodness we have been very, very blessed and have not had to use the epipen (yet, hopefully never). He can not have any peanut/nuts, products, oils, products processed in or near, etc.
Yes, if the epipen is used, then off to the hospital quickly. It is a life-threating allergy.
Im glad you asked. You never know when you might meet someone with this allergy. :)

Hi there, we do not have a life-threatening nut allergy but we DO have a severe dairy allergy--both myself and my husband. Think severe abdominal cramping and horrific pain if anything containing dairy is ingested, plus the inability to leave a bathroom due to "both ends" issues. Obviously this causes great concern for us whenever we eat out, and I have to say that WDW is the BEST place for accommodating folks like us. They seem to take it quite seriously; I have called the restaurants directly before to inquire about ingredients, special dishes, etc. Everyone has been very helpful and nice and they don't have the attitude about it that SOME places locally and on vacation seem to have. You know the one...the sighing, the "is it really so serious that you have to put US out?" tone of voice, the bringing of EXACTLY THE WRONG ITEM to the table (for us, that would mean telling them we are highly allergic to milk, butter, etc. and being served something with cheese--it happens!). :guilty: You should have a lot of luck with the Disney folks. Enjoy your vacation! Double-check at each meal, of course, but I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the service. :cheer2:
