We had a piano teacher who was grammy nominated. She did go (not to the main show, her category was done in an event that was smaller). She framed the album that was nominated, the nomination letter and the tickets to the event in a beautiful collage.

So tell him to embrace and enjoy and save everything to frame for letter.
