DS and I are going to need surgery

We found out on Friday both of us will need orthopdeic surgeries. I slipped and fell in the basement parking deck of the local mall on Jan. 20th . DS was was injured on a Boy Scout weekend camping outing on Sat. . I tore my right posterior horn of the lateral meniscus, the right medial meniscus in my right knee and partially torn my ACL. ( in 2000 I tore my left ACL) .
DS fractured his left ankle bad enough to require surgery to do a ORIF of it. So there goes our Hilton Head/ WDW vacation on President's week. in 12 days. , We also found on Friday my DW's SIL has breast cancer. When it rains it pours.

Yup, it sure pours in your house house alright. Sorry to hear about both of your injuries. I really fell bad for your son w/ his broken ankle. I broke mine a little over 5 years ago in 4 places. Not sure what you mean by an ORIF but i had surgery to put a plate and screws in my ankle to put it back together. I still have them all too. Good luck with both your surgeries.

Sorry for all the problems. But hey, I'm in South Carolina and it's too COLD to enjoy Hilton Head right now anyway. Right now it's nearly freezing and supposed to ice again tonight. That's okay unless you're in South Carolina on vacation.

I met with my orthopedic surgeon today and the good news is that i will need a arthoscopy only to remove the both meniscus.. not bad considering I would have needed more invasive type . He I am hoping that it would be done later in the week. My Dw and I are both RNs and if I can do the rest of the post- op physical therapy on my own with help from Dw.. He says there is no reason to postpone our trip. I have to be just very sedate.. My DS is having surgery tomorrow.. His orthopedic surgeon said he will be able to get around on crutches in a week or so. SO we may be able to do the vacation after all. but It wil be a lsat minute decision... We will have to take our time driving down.. and this allow only the Hilton Head Island trip... We are goping to WDw in April for Ds's marching band.. so This good news in a way.

Serena... He is going to take out most of right knee cartlitige using a small flexible cable with a surgical instrument with a small flashlight on it. Much bettter than having the old fashioned type. My Ds is having a ORIF .. open reduction internal fixation... another words they are going to put the bone together using screws.
