Drunken fight at F&W festival

We do not know the facts in this case and are assuming that the person was under the influence of alcohol. That is not what was reported.

Just read the article and I am disgusted. NOT because they serve alcohol, lord knows I enjoy a drink as much as anyone and enjoy the food and wine festival every year in a responsible manner. What disgusts me, is the fact that this guy was a naval academy graduate and football player. As a veteran (USAF 90- 95) who served overseas, I am appalled by the actions of this guy and the fact that he was so intoxicated that he not only struck two CM's but hit a woman with a pvc pipe. I sincerely hope that this guys actions don't reflect badly on naval officers as a whole and I STRONGLY believe he should resign his commission.

On behalf of myself and all veterans and service members everywhere, I apologize to all involved and affected by this ensign's actions.

" A Naval Academy graduate and former football player was charged with attacking three Walt Disney World cast members while intoxicated at the Epcot theme park this weekend."

This is taken from the Orlando sentinel newspaper.

We were there as well last year to listen to some of the concerts and the crowds were pretty well lit. Since it is supposed to be a taste of food and drinks around the world maybe it should be sold in smaller size. Or by a coupon book for x amounts of drinks per day . Although there will always be some who have no control over their actions. I get annoyed by how hard it is to navigate around the WS because of the lines at the food booths.

The fact that he was charged for intoxication, doesn't mean that he was. From the same news feeds, "Deputies said Hill appeared to be drunk as he resisted efforts to restrain him, yelled and made incoherent statements".

Could be alcohol, could be drugs, could be a mental issue, could be a brain tumor or any combination of all four or something else.

Could be, but you forget the fact that he is a Naval Officer and a Pilot in flight training. That means physicals, drug testing and weekly health checks by naval doctors and evaluations every time something health related is noticed or affects performance. They dont just stick anyone in multi million dollar aircraft. He was drunk, and if he was on something, then that's even worse because it was recreational. The possibility of it being something out of his control is there but very, very unlikely. I'm going to stick with the multiple reports of drunk and disorderly.

No need to apologize. Idiots are all over even in the military. They sneak in lol my dad was USAF and my grandmother also.

There will always be that person who causes trouble when they drink. Sad but true.

Just and FYI the "W" in F&W stands for "wine". I just wanted to clarify that for some people ie:OP, in case they didn't know.
Oh and also it will cost you around 200 to successfully drink around the world. And it's one hell of a time, if your able to (terribly sorry for being harsh ) take the stick out of your ***.

How many gifts have you heard about at Disney due to alcohol? This is the first I've heard about one in years...

Oh before I forget ... This is just my opinion

Buahahah, this made me laugh.

I agree, it's one hell of a time, and one I intend to repeat every single year that I can, and I will do so responsibly.

All kinds of people do stupid crap all the time, People on booze, people on stupidity, kids on sugar, people having accidents. There is no reason to ban booze, there is reason to remove people who are infringing on other people's enjoyment of their vacation. That is all.

1) Of course, the WHOLE STORY wasn't mentioned.
2) The "restricted area" where the ensign wheeled the pipe was the Epcot Tunnel.
3) That is where the two guys were struck.
4) Yep, there is a tunnel under parts of Epcot.

It's not about alcohol, it's about the breeding of lack of responsibility that is being encouraged in today's society.

Look at the recent EBT thing. The cards get a glitch and have no limit, so folks go out and fill up multiple carts and KNOWINGLY steal food, and a lot of it...yet it's being considered that these people should not be prosecuted, because it's "human nature". So now, stealing is human nature...so we shouldn't go after people who do it...because they aren't responsible for their impulses. Regardless of my own opinions on the matter, as well, rather than encouraging minors not to engage in sexual activity, abortions are being pushed instead. When a madman goes on a shooting spree, he gets insanity and a severely limited sentence, and the guns get blamed, because he is not responsible for his actions...it's human nature.

Regardless of how anyone feels about those things politically, it's a fact that they encourage a lack of personal responsibility. When people begin getting in the frame of mind that it's the alcohol's fault, the gun's fault, human nature's fault, things start getting chaotic...and as a result, things start going in the opposite direction of a free society. And that's what we have here.

:thumbsup2 Well said !! When people are held personally responsible for their behavior then things will change . If you are told the stove is hot do not touch it ,but you do and are burned . Is that the stoves fault ? I guess we should ban stoves...

I blame the vegetarian Haggis in scotland. I think the scottish Haggis made them hate the irish thus the confrontation.

I totally agree. It's the responsibility level with anything you encounter if you are not mature enough to handle yourself then you don't deserve to enjoy yourself. I've been to F&W several time and have participated in drinking around the world several times. It takes a level of responsibility to be able to police not only your friends but also yourself. This is part of being allowed to drink it goes for everywhere not just Disney Parks.

I left Disney a few days ago and saw plenty of people who had far too much to drink!

confuzzled here too!! When did they slip that bad boy in there?

It's only there for the F&W. It's one of the additional kiosks they set up so more countries are represented during the festival. Last time we were there, the Ireland kiosk has a really good cheese plate IIRC, but that's been a few years. One of my favorite things about F&W is that they have the additional countries. I wish they'd add more permanent ones.

This guy obviously has anger management issues. Alcohol was not the sole problem here. He is the problem. As he is like a loaded weapon just waiting to go off. Sadly, it just happened to be at Disney World. The event most likely enticed him to go there and the alcohol played the part of lowering his inhibitions. But you have to be a total lunatic to get drunk and start a fight with innocent people at the happiest place on earth.

I agree. There is no amount of alcohol that could make me do that. I'm a happy drinker and being at Disney would only add to that. It had to already be in his nature.

I find the while F&W troubling in general.

Our last trip ended with one day at F&W opening on 9/27. My DW were excited as we are foodies. I am a wanna be chef. So we were excited.

What a mess....

First, you have the drunks like this guy, but mostly just drunks who don't think they are drunk or a problem to the people around them. It wasn't even noon and people were drunk and annoying. A little message to the folks who do the drink around the world and think you are not annoying anyone....most of are you are super annoying. I am glad you are having fun, everyone should have a blast at WDW, but you frequently getting in the way of the people around you from having fun. In reality you are not better than this guy. At least he took his issues to the tunnels (tunnels? who else wants to peak at those tunnels?) But instead of fighting you are more likely to be stumbling into my family, blocking attractions, and dropping the F-bomb next to my 3 year old, because as we know alcohol numbs you and looses your inhibitions. People who are drinking are a bad judge of how much they have actually drank. So you might think you are never problem as you drink around the world, but the folks around you tend to disagree.

Am I am staying they should drop all the alcohol? Heck no, but maybe discourage or lessen it's importance. I like alcohol. We stayed on club level this time and I enjoyed our beverage offerings. I love doing the scotch flights at Rose and Crown (man the Macallen 12, 15, and 18 was amazing!) I love the slushes at France. And while it great that we should say everyone should be responsible for their own behavior, that does not seem to work well in large crowds. Disney needs to go a better job of controlling limits and kicking out the drunks. I would think Disney would be concerned about the liability issues, both in the parks and while guests travel home intoxicated.

Disney is first and foremost a family destination, This is why many of adult areas tend to eventually die a slow painful death. I suspect that as drunken issues increase, attendance will decrease during the F&W. It is too hard to do the Food when the wine-o's are in the way.

Other issues for me at the F&W were the lines, which aren't as well managed as their ride and regular food lines and the fact at F&W was not allergy friendly at all. Yikes. No one at the booths knew anything which was uncharacteristic of Disney.

it's been a while since i've been to F&W, so that makes sense now. Didn't remember the other countries!!
