Drug recall: Phenylpropanolamine

A friend forwarded this link to me. This drug is also commonly referred to as "PPA". There is a possibility that this drug has caused hemorraghic strokes in women and some children and I'm sure some of these are in your medicine cabinet right now.

My intent is not to cause panic but to justiinform. What better place to get the word out then here at the DIS - besides, my mother suffered a hemorraghic stroke a few years ago and it was devastating, she'll never be the same (not from this drug). Just some FYI for you all.

Actually this happened at least two years ago, and no OTC products contain PPA any more. If someone has OLD products they might have it but all drug makers have reformulated their products to not contain PPA. Good idea to get rid of any old drugs that have it. :)
 
The problem occured in women on "diet pills".
They took it off the market though - nothing
else works quite as well on a runny nose!
Pseudephedrine replaced most of it in over
the counter cold medicines.
