drowning at Castaway Cay yesterday

I think we have reason to be hopeful that the man from the Fantasy on Friday survived. When the man from the Wonder passed away on Thursday, news outlets reported the death fairly quickly. It seems like they would have done the same had the man from Friday passed away also. Does anyone else feel this way?
Yes I think that is a fair assumption.

So very very sad for his family and everyone involved. Just remember people that is it the ocean and it can be dangerous with undercurrents and riptides.

Word from officers this morning was that he was revived and he is going to live. He was not "left on a gurney" on the dock. In fact, he was wheeled out by several officers, who surrounded him the whole time, as well as the ship's nurse, who was at his head and one of the Coast Guard crew. They had a respiration bag on him, but it wasn't being used much, so I'm assuming he was breathing fairly well on his own by then. The officers and nurse transferred him onto the transport stretcher for the helicopter after putting his wife and child onto the helicopter first. Once they had him secured on the helicopter the ship's doctor got on board and flew with him to the hospital. The doctor is the one who called the ship and updated the Commodore and other officers. I watched the entire airlift unfold from Deck 12, Port side, from the moment I saw the CC supervisor watching the horizon in the direction of Nassau waiting for the helicopter, to seeing the small dot that was the helicopter appear in the distance, to the moment they lifted off and flew in the direction of Miami.

Thank you, Phinz, for the updates. My bil had a massive heart attack while onboard the Fantasy a couple of years ago. My sister has a very high opinion of the medical staff on the Fantasy due to their experience. She has high praise for DCL in general for their very compassionate and professional handling of their medical emergency. If not for the skills of the doctor and staff aboard the ship, my bil would not have survived.

I too give accolades to the medical staff on board the ship. My husband had a reason to go to the medical center. There were 2 doctors and 4 nurses there. The care was professional and caring. They took excellent care of the problem, gave him medication and even followed up with a phone call the next day! I was impressed. This was on the DREAM

The staff always does a great job.
My prayers go out to the family who lost theit loved one.

I am wondering if anyone has any more information on the gentleman that had the accident on Friday, Feb 27th on Castaway Cay? I haven't been able to stop thinking about what happened. Just want to know if he is alive and conscious??? Please post if you have any more information, I would really appreciate it!

We just disembarked from the Fantasy and wanted to provide some insight. We were on the beach that was adjacent to the snorkeling area. One member of our party was snorkeling and the other was watching children close to the shore. Suddenly, whistles were blown and lifeguards were rushing to the rope that divides the snorkeling beach from the family beach. I saw them bring out a seemingly lifeless body and a woman (did not appear to be related) was carrying his legs. He was young and we found out later had a wife and 5 year old daughter. They immediately began working on him. This was around 11:30/11:45. People were crying and it was horrible. Many children didn't see because they were busy playing and parents did their best to keep them distracted. Apparently, his snorkel vest was tangled on something, which prevented him from raising his head. This was in pretty shallow water. The Coast Guard helicopter came around 4:45, which was quite some time after the incident occured. It was right outside of our balcony and although someone was holding an iv bag. We didn't observe any breathing aids at all during this entire transfer which lasted about 10-15 mins. From our vantage point, it appeared as if no one worked on him at all during this time. We were told he didn't make it, but truly hope this is not the case. This is a huge tragedy and I hope that more information is released about what exactly occurred so this will never happen again.

Anonymous12345, would you mind having a conversation with me about what you witnessed? The man you saw on the beach on Friday was my friend and I would like to gain as much insight into what occurred as possible.

.

Phinz- I am trying to figure out how this blog works... I can't tell if you posted more details on the Friday incident or if the anonymous 12345 did? I don't mean to sound nosey but I am the one who found the gentleman in the water. I later heard he had a heart attack but that he was revived? I am struggling with all if this and need to know if he is ok or what? I noticed him and thought the way he was snorkeling looked odd. I was trying to find my daughter and husband after I noticed him but thought is better check so I tapped him and he did nothing. I couldn't touch ground so I grabbed the rope between the swimming area where I was and the snorkeling area where he was and hooked my arm under his and pulled him to me. He didn't move so I screamed and waved for help. I feel terrible and haven't slept. I need to know how he is PLEASE, PLEASE share with me. I am so sad.

I edited because I'm skeptical of people with very few posts asking for more information. I don't know any more than the fact that his color looked good when they loaded him onto the helicopter compared to when I saw them take the turn toward the ship while I was sitting on the tram waiting to go from the dock to Scuttle's Cove. Perhaps the one you quoted above has more information, since they claim to be friends with the person. They would have the most updated information, if they're willing to share and aren't just trying to put together a case.

Sorry for sounding cynical, but I'm wary of people in the litigious society we live in today.

Thank you. You don't sound cynical, I understand completely. I am hoping I can find out more as I need closure. It was absolutely horrible and I'm praying so hard for him and his family. Thank you again.

You're quite welcome. Thank you for what you did. I can only hope to be so aware if I'm in that situation.

It all happened so fast and I am beating myself up that I didn't check him sooner. I want nothing more than to know he got out of the water in time. Thank you again.

I was there on Friday... Do you know if he is ok? You are friends with the gentleman?

I was on the Wonder cruise when this happened at CC, past Thursday. Man in this 30's had a heat attack/drowned and yes, past away. Very sad. We happen to see the body bag being rolled on the gurney on the pier, nothing I will soon forget. I was speaking with a couple who was there when it happened. I think we were all in shock for awhile. Nothing you expect to ever happen while on vacation.

We were right there when you helped bring him out. My husband (doctor) was helping with CPR. I was there with his wife and daughter (keeping them away) so they could work on him.
Were still both so upset, I've searched everywhere hoping to find out how he is.... I kept telling his wife, they're doing everything, he will be ok?? But is he ok??? That whole time plays over and over....
If you find out anything could someone please let us know.

I don't think they're going to answer, since they last logged on an hour after you asked this question. We'll see if they're just fishing or have real info.

I don't understand why their isn't more information. Not even where they took him.
Just small print about a 2nd incident.
I have her (wife) calling his name in my head.... He's Korean.... 35-40.
Or I believe she was Korean.

My heart breaks...
