My wife is concerned about taking our 2 boys ages 6 & 7 on Dinosaur because she read in a planning guide that there were steep drops. Can anyone describe the drops comparable to other attractions? Thanks

Zero "drops" in Dino.

That said, it is arguably the ROUGHEST ride in all of Disney.
The vehicles jar violently from front-to-back, side-to-side, lunge forward, and brake suddenly.

Then there are the very L-O-U-D sound effects and surprising jump-out-of-the-dark-with-blinding-flashes-of-light DINOS with long sharp teeth.

I love this attraction, but it is designed to be "scary" and it succeeds pretty well.

You don't go down any big roller coaster sized drops. The worst thing is your vehicle shakes like it's going to fall apart. But it doesn't.

A boy aged 6 and 7 will absolutely love it except possibly for the big scary dinosaur at the end. But that's not too bad. But if they have back or neck problems don't go. It will shake you around quite a bit.

There is a point or two in which the light effects and the angle of the vehicle, along with some shaking and jarring, make you feel as if you are dropping...but you're not, at least no significant distance. It is, however, a rather intense ride, and if the kids are a little on the nervous side, you might want to consider sitting this one out.

I love it, by the way, but I LIVE for intense (Disney-style, that is!).

I don't remember any drops in Dinosaur. Lots and lots of shaking. And the carnotaur is quite scary (or sounded scary, my eyes were closed!)

I did NOT want to ride this ride, but my boys (dh, ds) talked me into it. I kept my eyes closed most of the time and even dh said he didn't want to do that one ever again. lol It's a wee bit scary! :scared1: I can handle rollercoasters and thrill rides, but not dinosaurs coming after me!! :lmao:

Thanks for the feedback. Nevermind my kids being scared, I'm almost afraid to ride this thing...

I took dd4 on this and she wasn't really scared at all. I think i was more scared....of a heart-attack, back strain, etc. I've never been on a ride that tossed you around so much....it just wasn't fun for my 35 year old bones!! I won't rush back to this one as the shaking wasn't all that "thrilling" to me.

Depends on your kid. My son didn't like it at 6. Too loud and jerky. He was better with it at 8.

I will Never EVER go on this ride again (24 y.o. girl). That being said, there really aren't any drops. I'm guessing that because you have 6 and 7 year old boys, they probably adore dinosaurs and would like this ride. Personally, it's dark and scary and loud and I have panic attacks on it. NEVER AGAIN. :scared:  :faint:

But there aren't any drops :thumbsup2

SUPER FUN RIDE!!!

But SUPER ROUGH!!! I took my 5YO DD on it and my sides were sore from trying to cover her eyes and hold on too. She's a bit of a scaredy cat though :). I think most kids would love it (roughness and all) :thumbsup2 .

This is a pretty intense ride. If your kids have vivid imaginations they may be a tad freaked out. Last year my son was 8 and he cried. He ended up going on it a few more times to "conquer" his fears and ended up okay after the last time. He then bought a big dino as a souvenier. I still don't think I have looked at the dino at the end and I have ridden more than 10 times. Guess I am a big chicken...

Well here's a shocker! I do this every year, and I'm the biggest ride chicken! For some reason, it doesn't bother me, and it's fun to scream my head off.

BUT - I will say that there is one little dip that I know is coming toward the end of the ride (the entire ride is like 3 minutes long). It is a quick dip, but I always feel it because drops and dips freak me out a little.

This is the only ride picture I can get in, since I don't do the other "biggies", so I'll keep riding Dinosaur!

I don't remember any drop at all. I suppose if it was at the end, I was still regaining my composure after that dino made me say a word one would not generally associate with wdw.

Though I've been on this ride, I can't give you much advice. I went on it a few weeks ago with two friends and my brother, with an age range of 15-18. We sat right in the front row and, about 20 seconds after the ride started, we were all curled up around eachother with hands over our eyes and ears. xD We were so scared! When one of us screamed all the others would scream, thinking they saw something really horrible. We made it worse for eachother, doing this, I think. xD

I remember there is a steep downhill part towards the end of the ride. It feels like it's going to be a drop at first, but you go slowly down so you don't get the funny feeling in your stomach.
