I am staying at the Grand Californian in December. I didn't want to shell out the cash to stay there, so I used points. For each night, it was 39 points.

I just looked at the point cost for 2006, and it's only 29 points for the same time and room. That's quite a drop. It's not at all typical for point costs to drop like that, is it?

There's no way I can get a partial refund for the points I'm using for my December 2005 stay, is there? My two-night stay would have cost 20 points less in 2006, which is a lot of points. I did agree to the 39 point/night price, but I still feel a little ripped off now.

The drop in points is a Disneyland's 50th Anniversary promotion.

Call MS - You may get those "extra" points returned to your account (and for an extra bonus they won't be returned in reservation status). In fact, they may have already done this for you. Others have reported that this happened to them.

That said, keep in mind that your dates may not be part of the specail promotion - the reduction may only apply to 2006. But it sure doesn't hurt to ask!

Best wishes -

I'll check. It might be a moot point. I borrowed the points from my 2006 use year. If I get them refunded, I will have no use for them in my 2005 use year, so unless I can "unborrow" them, which I've never heard of, I'd lose the points anyway.

It just galls me that something I'm paying 78 points for now costs 58 points. That's a huge difference. Oh well.

OK, I called.

Even though the point costs for 2006 have been lowered, the cost for December 2005 is still the same, so I'm not entitled to any refund. Oh well. I'm glad I at least called and checked.

And in general, it's nice that they've lowered the costs on all the hotels at Disneyland, not just the Disneyland Hotel. When I agreed to pay 39 points/night for Grand Californian, I thought that was kind of high, but I paid it anyway because I really wanted to stay there. However, I think 29 points/night is a pretty good deal. I wouldn't think twice about paying that.

So maybe I just need to go back and visit Disneyland again in 2006! :)

We just made a reservation using points for the GCH for June, 2006 and I almost died when I looked on the website and saw 29 points I was so excited. That is a great deal. The rack rate for our stay is $280 a night. It was only a few points more to stay there than at the DLH which we love but just couldn't pass up this chance. Glad Disneyland is getting some good deals now too!

I wonder if it is to also make it more attractive to new west coast dvc members -until something is built/announced - this is a great idea.

Okay, are ya'll getting those point rates from the DVC member site?

I'm just starting to look into a trip for Thanksgiving 2006, so not aware the points dropped or if that time frame is even eligible...it's showing 41 points/night for the time frame I'm looking...

Thanks!

Our trip is for June, 2006 and yes I saw this on the member web site. I am pretty sure this is something for the 50th which will be over by November 2006. When we were at Disneyland in September they were not having these great deals so this is pretty recent. I wish it would stay this way! AAA rate for our time frame is $280 a night so that is a great deal for us at 29 points a night.

amy&dan....thank you! I've been getting some good response concerning DL which helps so much trying to plan a trip. I did see where the points for June are much less than Thanksgiving...hum? If only I knew we had the time in June...too much uncertainty at this point though.

Again, thanks for the info!

oh, this is great news. i want to go in June now that means I'll have to borrow points from 2007. Can anyone tell me what happens with the borrowed points if I have to cancel my reservation?

My husband is pretty sure he was told by ms when he made the reservation at the GCH that if we cancelled we would have to use those points at GCH or another Disneyland Resort Hotel within the same use year. It was kind of confusing, the ms person was hard to understand. We aren't planning on cancelling and that for sure makes our plans hard to change!

Actually, the 29 points per night is during value season. Since Thanksgiving is holiday season, the lowest is 41 ppn. (But by comparison, the Paradise Pier Hotel is 38 ppn and the Disneyland Hotel is 32 ppn for the same period, so the Grand Californian is still not out of line. Also, compared to this year, the GF was 54 ppn for Thanksgiving week, so you're saving 13 points each night!)

Just a question. The points given of standard view, 29 per night is also the same amount of points on the weekend?

Yup, at the DL Resort hotels all days of the week are the same points, the only variants are the season and the view.

Thanks! I was curious as to what kind of drop it was for the holiday season, if any...still not sure if we're heading there or not...DH is now begging for a trip to Hawaii, but I'm really wanting it all...short trip to DL, trip to Hawaii and another DCL trip...a gal can dream...afterall a man and a mouse did....
