So, I noticed that a lot of people around here are turning 16. How exciting for you! Have you gotten your permit or driver's liscense yet? How do you feel about driving, do you like it?

I know I'm not a recent permit-getter (new word, lol), but I just felt like talking about this. I drove my mom's car tonight, which she never lets me drive since it's new. Anyway, it is such a smooth ride. I usually just feel 'blah' about driving now, it's such a normal thing, but driving this made me excited! It was a lot of fun.

Anyway, yeah. Driving stuff talk.

Nope. I can legally get my permit but I don't want to. I've toyed around with my mom's car in the driveway, and I'm a fine driver I'm just more afraid of the other drivers.

here, the licensing system goes like this:
L's - learner's license. you can only drive at 80km/h and must have a fully licenced driver in the front seat. you can get this at 16 and you have to do 120hours of driving before you can get your P's (it was only 50hours when i had mine)
red P's - you can get this at 17. you can drive alone but can only do 90km/h. you must have this for 12months.
green P's - you can get this at 18 and can now do 100km/h. you have this for 2 years.
blacks - this is the full license and you can get it at 20. you can do whatever the speed limit is and can supervise learners.

i got my red P's about a year late (this march) coz i dont really like driving. i just got it coz it was convenient

Now I have a stupid question for you. How do you know if you're a fine driver if you've only driven in the driveway?

I was the same way. I thought I could handle a car okay as long as I didn't come near any other drivers, lol. Once you drive a few times though, you feel like it's completely nothing.

Just a suggestion. When you go do your drivers test, watch your right turns! I failed my first one because my right turns were to wide (even though it was a tiny road on the side of a cliff, but whatever, I'm not bitter).

LOL, I didn't mean fine as in fine, I meant fine as in decent. I've practiced some parking, reversing, short stopping, and I know pretty much everything on the practice test except for a few oddities.

I'm just intimidated by the whacko's around here and the fact that my mom's car is HUGE! I can't drive my dad's car either because it's all junked up from his accident a few months ago. We can't afford another car for my dad so there's no way I can get one.

Then there's the fact I feel I'm not mature enough for driving. Even my tutor who teaches driving school on the side thinks I'm crazy for that. I'm fine with my mom driving me places, and I've seen WAY too many teenage car accidents for my time. I was kinda all hyped up before my birthday, but now I don't care. It's just driving - I'll probably go out for my permit in a few months but for now, eh no thanks. Oh, and there's the fact that I absolutely refuse to drive in snow, which is here for about 7 months of the year.

I got my permit 2 months after my 15th birthday. I got my license the morning of my 16th birthday. I turn 18 in a little under three months, and I haven't had an accident yet :) Well, I was rear-ended while sitting in Park at the drive-thru at Whataburger, but I don't really count that. There wasn't any damage to my car other than the license plate being slightly bent, but it's still bent (this happened over a year ago) - no reason to fix it.

When I first started driving after I got my permit, I was terrified. I remember driving around in an empty parking lot around some office buildings, and when my mom told me to go on the street I started shaking. We started heading home (taking back roads) and at one point my mom told me I didn't have to finish driving home if I didn't want to, and I literally pulled over RIGHT as she said that and got out. :rotfl:

Lol! That reminds me of my first time driving.

There's a road next to my dad's work that rarely has traffic on it, so that's where he took me at first. I practiced driving up and down the street for an entire hour just to get used to the breaks, turning signals, etcetra. Then the next time I went into the parking lot and practiced parking and backing out. When my dad finally asked me to go on a real street, my heart almost pumped out my chest! I was so so so terrified! I did fine but chickened out and found a parking lot to go into, lol.

Driving just takes practice until you get comfortable with it.

I turn 16 a year from august and I am so so so excited to get my permit!

I live on a farm so I drive around there all the time and I just love the feeling of driving and listening to the radio. I have no idea why but I think its so much fun.

I got my permit back in March. My birthday was in January, but I was lazy. I failed the theory test but aced the sign test, so I just had to redo the first part.
I'm not a BAD driver, I'm just terrible at multi-tasking. I drift a lot. It's just I'm always worried about the overall position of the car, so I'm sitting there wondering how I can do turns without hitting stuff. I overthink everything.

Anyhoo, I'm in drivers ed, my next lesson is lesson 5. Last night I drove around and I did 3 parallel parks, it was SORTA easy. I can't park in a regular parking space tho xD

We just recently changed the law from 4 months after you get your beginners to 8 months after (you have to do drivers ed though) so I won't be able to take my final test till November or December.

I'm turning 16 in July, and I plan on getting my permit as soon as I possibly can. I love driving, and I'm super comfortable doing it.

I took drivers ed at 15 and 10 months. Then I got my permit right on my 16th birthday. Then 6 months late I got my licence.

I have a late birthday so I was doing everything later then everybody. But I've had my licence for over a year now. Sometimes I do stupid mistakes. But I'm an okay driver.

I got in one accident. I was at a gas station and it was busy and so I was pulling away from the pump and side swipped the guy infront of me and got stuck. I was bawling my eyes out. I had only had my licence for 2 months at that point.

I got my permit three days after I turned 15. I got my license exactly one year later. I will have had my license for two years on June 28 haha. I love being able to drive and having that freedom, I hate driving though. If that makes any sense. Like I hate traffic/lights/stop signs/annoying drivers/long distances but I like actually being able to go somewhere if I want.

I have also had my car since October 2007, so its been nice. I have so far been in two "accidents" both fender benders, both my fault. The first I was at a four way stop, the car infront of me I thought had gone and made the right hand turn already he started to go and I just thought he had so I rolled up behind him(literelly less than 5 miles per hour) to take the spot at the stop sign and look at the car coming from the left. Well apparently he DID NOT go, and I "rolled" into him. It sucked. I fortunately did not get a ticket, the guy blew it WAY out of proportion, made me call the cops when there was not a scratch on the car ect. The cop let me off since I never got a ticket before for anything so yeah.

Second "accident" I was backing out of my driveway, my friend had her car a little closer than I was used to, and I took off her side mirror. Cost $250 to replace, but other than that it was my friend so no cops/insurance involved.

I am a much better driver now, more cautious. I am glad I have not gotten into anything too serious yet. Good luck to everyone getting their license soon, I know the feeling :)

I turned in my forms for drivers ed. yesterday
I'm 15 and so I can get my permit now and can get my liscense as soon as I turn 16 after I complete drivers ed.
I'm taking it this summer but I'm terrified driving so well see what happens...

I turned 15 in february and still havent gotten my permit. I just didnt want to get it. I think I'll get it this summer though.

I started driving my dad's old F350 offroad with my family when I was 14 *cue the banjo music*

I bought my first car at about the same time I got my permit, and I got my license when I was exactly 16. My parents hated driving me and my brother around all the time so they made us do it as soon as possible!
I'll be 19 in a few days, and I've never been in an accident unlike all my friends, so I'm doing good so far!

I think we have a different system here in England.

At 17 you can apply for a Provisional Driving license, this allows you to drive a car with someone over 21 who has driven for 3 years.

We have to pass 2 parts of our test, a theory test which is 50 multiple choice questions, we have to get 43 to pass, then theres a hazard perception part to this test with 14 clips and we have to spot the hazard and click when it appears. We need 45 out of 70 to pass I think.

Then its the practical driving test. Driving along a test route with an examiner. They ask us to do 2 reverse manouvers and random bits of driving, we can make 16 minor faults i think it is before we fail, or 1 major fault and we fail.

I failed my theory test first time in December, but passed in January. I passed my practical test a few months ago so i'm a fully licensed driver :)

I love driving, its one of the greatest things I've done. Only problem is paying for petrol and the price of insurance on my car.

I got my license back in 2006. Back then for me it was 6 hours of class time and I forget how many hours of behind the wheel for drivers ed. Then after you got your permit, you had to do 25 hours of driving before you could get your license.

Have had my permit since August and I drive my parents everywhere [even crazy!]

I remember when I first started driving and I could barely stay within the lines. I kept sliding over to the other lane. Now I am so happy I got better!

I get my license August 29th but that is a saturday and the place is closed.
SO I have to wait until August 31st

I was so excited when I got my license. Now it's just like nothing special.

I failed my first driver's test because he said I didn't completely stop at the stop signs but I was just happy to pass the maneuverability test which is what I was really nervous about.

Wow, we had to have 24 hours of class time, 8 hours with a drivers ed instructor, 50 hours behind the wheel and 10 of those hours had to be at night time.
