We will be driving on I 77 to our trip to DW. Can anyone suggest a nice place to stay for the night in Columbia S.C.?

When we drive, we base our motel choice on a couple of things. First of all, we never book in advance because we can never be sure exactly how far we'll get before we want to stop.

When we get into SC, we stop at the visitors center and get the coupon book for the hotel specials. Then when its getting to be about time to stop, we start watching the billboards to see what's coming up. We use I-95 so I'm not familiar with I-77, but at least on 95 there are 3 or 4 motels at virtually every exit. We just find the one with the best rate and stop there for the nite.

Stop at the SC tourist center if you decide to drive without a reservation. I believe they can make reservations for you.

That's about your halfway point to WDW. I drive to the GA/FL border the first day so I can't help with hotels in SC.

Bobcat-

We drive down from Cincinnati once or twice each year and typically stop in Macon, GA. On our trip next month, however, I am hoping to get to FL or almost to FL. Can you suggest a hotel/motel? We don't like to spend a whole lot of money for the stop over hotel, but our first priority is safety (interior corridors, well light parking lot etc.) A free continental breakfast would be a plus as well.

Thanks

First of all I love your name! Happy 40th!

I take I-77 down so I don't go I-75. Sorry I can't help.

I'm from St. Louis, MO - I'll be traveling to DW on Aug 9. I usually fly, but this year we are driving. I'm going to stop in Atlanta, GA and stay at Amerisuites(about 8 hours from St. Louis) - But I might be changing my plans because Homestead Suites has a $15 off special if you subscribe to their website - If I can book 4 rooms. The rooms with the discount - will be only be $35 for that one night layover in Atlanta, GA. Atlanta is about 6 hours from disney. I'm not sure if they have continental breakfast but ALL OF the Amerisuites and Residence INN have them and they are GREAT!!!! Both hotels have predictable rooms (all the rooms look alike no matter what state your in, and the prices are pretty good - although, Amerisuites are almost always cheaper than Residence Inn. :jester: :smooth:

We drive down from Pittsburgh at least once per year. I always wait until I hit 95 before finding a place to stay. Its just a little over an hour past Columbia and the rooms seem more economical than those around Columbia. We always pick up one of those driver discount books from the rest areas and make our decisions from that.
