Anyone drive down to wdw in early march or there time wise? Wondering about roads & conditions from Illinois > florida? Is snow, ice a factor in Tennesse or mountain areas?

Thanks, Mky princess:

We've gone in Feb many times from Ontario -- cross the border at Detroit down I-75 the whole way. I do not remember ever having any problems south of Ohio. Last Feb, we hit a huge ice-storm coming home. Tenn/Kentucky were fine, but Ohio was an absolute mess. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

You will be going down maybe I-65, however AAA has been routing down I-57 to I-24 thru Nashville to I-75 at Chattanoogaa.

We use to travel to Florida in March alot.

It's anyone's guess what you will run into with the odds in your favor. You would be more likely to run into bad weather along the route in central Indiana. It would tend to be icy than anything else. I've driven it maybe a a couple dozen times and can remember two times I ran into this.

We did get caught in the storm of 1993 and spent two nights on the floor in a motel until Ga opened I-75. It took that long because they don't have the equipment there to handle it. If the storm was in Ill the road more than likey would not have been closed.

We were three hours behind my aunt and uncle and ran into them at the same motel. What's the odds on that?

Thanks, we are so divided over if we should drive or fly. With doing the cruise and a week at wdw, our own car would be really nice for extra luggage etc... and way cheaper for that amount of time veruses 2 rentals, & air. But is it worth it? We keep going back and forth on this issue.

Thanks, for the help. Mky princess:

Here's an alternate.

Take I-65 to Montgomery AL. get onto I-85 north. Get off at exit 9 onto AL 271. That would be a right turn at the top of the ramp. Take AL 271 all the way to the end. That would be a T intersection with US 231. Turn left onto 231 and go to I-10 in Florida (don't forget to stop at the border and get your free small glass of juice). Go eastbound to I-75 and so on.

Take the bypass around Dothan (if you can call it that). It's better than going thru town.

If you are going to take a plane and go on a cruise I would suggest flying down a day or two before the cruise. If your flight is delayed or canceled the ship sails without you.

You've been so helpful!

We have driven before but only in the summer. Used the 57 > 75 route, But 57 in really desolate in Illinois. So that will depend what time of day we would leave. I kinda of prefered the 80> 65>24>75 route. But us midwesteren's are stuck with some really Large cities to be routed through. My sister want's to drive East to 95, she said "they got it alot better"

Our cruise leaves on Sat march 5 and Vacation starts march 1 so we would either fly or start driving on the 1st. :hyper: ::yes:: Have to squeeze every disney minute out of my annual pass ::MickeyMo ;) !. If we drive would probably marathon down (have suv, will travel), and then maybe stop on way back 1 nite. Lots of room with just the 2 of us.

We are mostly worried about weather, ice storms, snow etc.. Up here we still can get a LOT of snow in march :( and wondered what it was like in the rest of the country. It is going south, but mountainy. :earseek:

Thanks again! MKY princess:

I-65 is a little flatter.

Hi from Darien.

Here's a hint. When driving thru Louisville stay in the left two lanes. It takes the exits out of play.

When driving thru Nashville stay in the center lane. they have wishbone splits where one interstate goes one way and the other the otherway. This way you aren't saying ah bleep and then scrambling across a bunch of lanes for the interstate you want.

If you are a AAA member you can go to their web sight and get routings and trip tiks on line. You print the trip tiks from the internet. Matter of fact I don't think you need to be a member to use a light weight version. go to Auto & Driving and look on the bottom.

I've been checking out your route and have a question,

Alabama's 231 between 10 to 65 is this a major 4 lane highway? Or stop sign highway?

Thanks again, MKY

It's US 231 and four lane divided. not a limited access. like US 41 in Indiana if you have been on that. Going thru Troy, Ozark, Dothan Alabama and Campellton and Cottondale Florida is not divided. The Florida towns are very small.

AL 271 is divided. The speed limit on 271 is 55MPH and 231 is 65 MPH except when going thru the towns.
