we're spending a week in Miami before WDW trip so we thought instead of flying Miami to MCO we'd rent a big truck and do the drive as it's more interesting than flying.

anyone done that trip and know how long it takes?? from what I'm guessing in terms of mileage if we leave Miami by 10am we should be at WDW before 2pm.

I don't know what part of Miami you are coming from, but based on my experience I'd say allow at least 4-4.5 hours (maybe more depending on the traffic)

Your guesstimate is about right. It's usually 4-4 1/2 hour drive from Miami to Orlando. Leaving at 10am is a good idea too because by then a lot of traffic has died down (it it's a weekday) from the morning rush hour. If you do a lot of stops on the way though it might take you a little longer.

Enjoy your trip!

Having driven to and from WDW to Palm Beach many times, let me tell you there is nothing interesting about the drive unless you like to stare at miles and miles of nothing. Having said that he is still quicker to drive then to fly. You are looking at 4 and a half hours.

I have made it in 3.5 hours with 2 stops, we take the Turnpike all the way to Osceola Pkwy!:thumbsup2 I like to Fly now though.

LOL!! the longest drive on our island is 6 minutes (end to end) so the thought of 4 hours of unending road is hugely tempting to us!!

our life is so empty ......;)

we'll be leving from the Turnberry Isle resort - near Aventura. whats the Turnpike?? is that a highway?

The Turnpike is the short name for "Florida's Turnpike", a toll road from Miami to the Orlando area. It is an expressway. That is the fastest route because it has less traffic and north of West Palm Beach it curves inland and heads directly to the Orlando area. The Turnpike also has service plazas every 45-minutes with gasoline, food, rest rooms, gift shops, etc. The tolls from Miami to Orlando will run close to $15 each way.

If you want a free road you would use I-95 which stays along the coast but then you would still have to take a short toll road west over to Orlando. I-95 has heavy traffic because it is free.
