Hi we are getting ready to go to disney we are driving from pittsburgh and leaving on jan 26. Has anyone drove there recently and stayed at a good reasonably priced motel or hotel along 95. We are hoping to make it to the south carolina / georgia border. any recommendations???

Check out this website: http://www.i95exitguide.com/index.php

It has info on all the exits on 95, and great overnight stops, ect. It should have all the info you are looking for.

If my link doesn't work, just do a web search on Interstate 95 exits. That's how I orginally found it.

My dd just drove down to FL this past Sunday. They stayed at a Red Roof Inn because she had her dog with her. She said it was nice and clean.

All of those hotels right there at the Gateway are pretty new, in fact there are some still being built. It's close to a super WalMart and some restaurant options as well.

We drove down in Aug. On the way down we drove all the way thru to WDW. It really wasn't bad at all. On the way back, we stayed at a Best Western in Statesville, NC. It is about the halfway point between Pittsburgh and Orlando. The next morning we went gem mining in nearby Hiddenite and had a blast! We went back to our hotel took quick showers and then drove the rest of the way home. It was a really great way to break up the trip back home.

In May, we are planning on stopping in Brunswick, Ga (already booked a hotel on Priceline for $40). Because we enjoyed the gem mining so much, we are are going to stay in Statesville 2 nights on the way home.

We like the Spring hill Suites I95 Savannah (exit 94). It's clean, there are a couple of restaurants in walking distance, and it has a nice, free, hot breakfast. I'm not sure of the cost though. We stayed on marriott points.

Can I ask how long it took to drive straight through? We've always flown but are contemplating a driving trip this summer. TIA. :thumbsup2

It took right around 16 hours. We left early evening on Friday. We hit some dense fog in WV which slowed us down a bit. We only made bathroom stops in WV and GA. We also stopped at Flagler Beach in FL.

Everyone was pleasantly surprised at how easy the drive really was (we had my dad and both of our boys - 6 & 8 - with us.) When we decided to buy into DVC we knew that we would be driving for most future trips. I have no hesitation to make the drive on a regular basis (ok - every 8 - 10 months.)

I used to live in Florence SC. It is right off the 1_95 exit. Small town, but right by the hotels are plenty of places to eat, a target and the Mall. Generally no traffic, unless it is Sat. morn. and it will be traffic headed to the Beach (in the summer). You'll have no trouble getting in and out.

Anything off of 1-20. Here is a website:

I can personally recommend the Springhill Suites.

We generally do Hampton Inns as many of them have indoor pools that the kids can swim in and relax from a long day in the car. They are clean, secure and usually have a stack of menus of places that will deliver to the hotel so we don't even need to go out to eat. It also seems that there is one just about every exit on 95 too so that helps! :)

We go to Savannah about every weekend and the best hotels close to the interstate in that area are at exit 94 on the north east side of the interstate. There are a lot of hotels right there and most are brand new. There are a lot of places to eat there too.

We just returned this weekend after driving from NJ. We stopped in Florence, SC and stayed at the Springhill Suites. The rate was good (we had a Friends and family discount but AAA is good too) and it included very nice breakfast including Belgian waffles. We originally planned to stay at the Springhill Suites in Savannah, GA but we got a flat tire in MD which detoured us for several hours. I heard that one is very nice also.

We like to stay with the Marriott hotels that offer breakfast. It is always a safe bet and a good deal for a family of 5. Breakfast alone can cost us a fortune anywhere.

I should have also mentioned that there was construction in GA on the way home. Traffic was terrible for over 50 miles for what appeared to be no real reason. I would highly suggest leaving to come home early in the morning to avoid it. We left around 10:30 and it added at least 1-1.5 hours to our trip.

Did you stop on the way home? We are going to be driving in April and are driving overnight Friday night and staying at DVC Hilton Head Saturday and finishing up the drive to WDW on Sunday morning. We just would like to get into Virginia for the drive home Friday and stay the night someplace.

Thanks!!

We thought about staying overnight in Virginia as my brother lives in Richmond. As the trip progressed DH did not think he could make it to Richmond so we reserved a Marriott property right off 95 in southern Virginia. By dinner we decided it would be really nice to wake up in our own beds and the kids (DD9, DD7 and DS2) were being great so we canceled the reservation and drove all the way through. It really was not that bad. Even with the traffic it took us about 16 hours. I am glad we made the drive then slept in the next day. I would not want to tire myself out on the way down by driving straight through but it was definitely the right thing for us on the way home.

No praise needed. We actually all kind of enjoyed the ride. the boys slept for several hours on the way down. When they were awake they watched dvd's or played on their Nintendo DS. We occasionally played eye spy (but that is hard to do at 70 MPH :rotfl: ) It was really like an adventure ot them.

If it is the choice between driving 16 hours or not going to WDW, I will choose driving every time without hesitation!

thank you everyone for the suggestions. i have checked a few of the hotels. we were hoping for a rate around $40 or $50 most of the nice hotels seem to be more than that. anyone know of any discounts on any of these hotels??? thanks again.

We are driving down in April from the Cleveland area. I made a reservation at the Comfort Inn in Saint George SC. We got a AAA rate of $49.00. We have never stayed there but the price was right so we are going to give it a try.
