We are going to be going to California in a couple of months to run a race - then we are off to DL!
My question is for all those who have driven the experience before. I hate driving long distances, but we are going to do it anyways to save a bit of money. Strarting in Edmonton and driving to San Francisco, I need to know the easiest, and fastest way there. Which border should we cross? HIghways to use, etc. Any recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I was trying to navigate around the Canadian Border site to find out hours of operation for crossings, but it was impossible to find. If anybody knows the site to go to, I would also very much appreciate that information. We will be heading out later and hopefully driving through the night, so any information will be appreciated. What I'm really looking for is if the Pacific Highway border is open 24 hours and if this is the one we should drive through.

Thanks, Jo

Jo, have you found out what you wanted to know yet?

I'd be interested in hearing how your drive down was when you return.

Were you searching on the Canadian Border Service Agency site?

Here is a link. Click on general info & services. Then on the 4th link, click onto CBSA offices and it will tell you the hrs. of operation. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/general/menu-e.html.

Well, I think I found what I was looking for. I really just wanted some good directions on how to get to California. I went to CAA and got a trip tiks, but am unsure if I like the directions they gave me. I also got directions from mapquest and google maps, and they all seem ok. Also, the border locations that I need to take have to be open late, because we are doing a straight drive - through, no stops, and was having trouble trying to figure out which border crossing to take....the website you gave doesn't show the locations on a map.

Oh well, I think I am going to take the Pacific Highway border crossing out of Surrey. We expect to be on the road for 26 hours from Edmonton. We may stop in Seattle for the night, but a quick stopover if we stop at all.

Thanks for the link though. Have a great day!

Jo
