When driving to disney by way of Jacksonville, are there any advantages of taking 9A or is it better to just stay on I-95? Someone mentioned this before but I don't remember where I read it. Also, if anyone has any other tips for driving from Massachustts to florida we would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

If you hit the city during non-rush hour then I-95 should be okay (just a little tricky at the I-10 interchange). During rush-hour, instead of 9-A you may want to consider I-295. It goes west of the city and is about 35 miles long. 9-A goes east of the city and is mostly highway, but they are still building the last interchange, so there is a stop light, and traffic backs up there because of the existing on-ramps to another expressway. I am not sure how long 9-A is it probably is shorter than i-295, hmm I think I have a new project.

Once that last interchange is done 9-A will be renamed to i-295 as both current sections make a complete loop around the city.

As noted, 9A is not completed yet. Traffic can back up for more than 15 minutes of stop & go where 9A crosses 202.
9A will probably be the preferred route when it is completed, it is about the same distance (but quicker) as going through town on I-95 and a lot shorter than I-295.

One issue, there is a very high bridge on 9A so for anyone who doesn't like to cross tall bridges this is probably not the route for you.

we drove from home once, and we took 95 all the way to 4. this was also 10 years ago, and we had a triptik from AAA. We were leaving from SE Mass, and we were driving straight through, so we left around 10 am so that we missed rush hour traffic in NYC, and I think we got to the DC area after rush hour -we did stop to eat and for bathroom breaks- because we had dinner in Virginia around 7 or 8. We got as far as Georgia before we stopped in rest area to nap for about 3 hours, then we were back on the road again and got to the Kissimmee area around 11 the next day.
I don't recommend doing it this way, but we were penny pinching college kids at the time, so we wanted to maximize our time. Between mapquest and GPS systems, there might be better ways to go....but it might not be a bad idea to see what AAA (if you're a member) might suggest as well.
