WDW virgin here and up to my ears in resort and dining reviews! :surfweb:

Picking a resort is difficult due to the fact that this is our first time staying at WDW (for our honeymoon) and we are not sure if we should go with a moderate resort or splurge on a deluxe or even stay offsite. We will be staying for 5 days in May.

Do you have any recommendations on a resort or any advice or tips for us newly-to-be-wed first timers? I am driving myself crazy trying to figure out what the best resort would be.

Please help!:worship:

Hi, and welcome! We stayed at the Wilderness Villas this past Aug. We RENTED from a DISer, best time ever! For LESS than a week at a moderate, we stayed luxury all the way! We're renting from them again, for our Disneymoon, next Oct. Best way to stay at a Deluxe! Good luck deciding wich one!! ;)

Our favorite resort is the Beach Club. We're part of the DVC, so we stay in the villas. They have a small kitchen area and washer/dryer in the suites, so you can save money on breakfast or deal with wet clothes. That particular resort is our top because you can walk into Epcot from there and the Boardwalk is right across the water with some restaurants and entertainment. All of the resorts really are wonderful, so you can't go wrong. Maybe think about what types of food you like the most since the resorts all have distinct restaurants and it helps to just be a walk through a lobby to get to it. We sometimes stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for that reason (and for the animals). Honestly, staying in the deluxe can be really special, but the moderates are very nice as well. Often, we end up going to the deluxe just to see them or eat at their restaurants anyway! But I definitely say stay on site, the transportation makes it worth it.

That's TWO so far for DVC!! I'm telling you, its' the way to go! We were treated like royalty. Our next trip, our Disneymoon, we're staying at the BoardWalk Villas, can't wait!!!:yay:

when you stay as part of DVC, do you pay extra for daily maid service to clean the room? I thought that was the drawback to renting from DVC- no daily maid service- am I wrong?

Copper4 - If you rent DVC from a member, I don't think you would get daily maid service. If you booked a DVC room through Disney you would get daily maid service.

whit8960 - If you can afford it I would splurge and go with a Deluxe resort. We LOVED the Grand Floridian when we stayed there in June. Being on the monorail is so convenient and if you're on the DxDP like we were you have two signature restaurants within walking distance and a few more great dining options just a monorail ride away. We've also stayed at AKV which was really cool and Wilderness Lodge. If a Deluxe is not in your budget, the moderate resorts are nice too, CSR just completed a room rehab and the new rooms look very nice. While I think renting DVC is a great deal, I'm a little too scared to try it yet, although I have heard nothing but good things.

I would absolutely recommend staying on property though. It's more magical and more convenient for taking afternoon breaks. Not to mention, you can get the dining plan which I'm also a huge fan of.

Right, in the DVC villas you don't get daily service (whether you rent or not). It's every third day, I think. But if you want new towels or sheets they will deliver those to your room for no charge. Honestly, I don't even notice the difference. Between the vacuum in the closet and the dishwasher in the kitchen, the suites are pretty self-sufficient in any situation.

I totally agree on the DVC renting. Our friends actually own and gave us a reservation for the week of our wedding as our wedding gift. I have to say it was our favorite!!!

Now when we are going in may we are renting from someone and spending the same as a mod but are going to be at the Boardwalk. I am extremely excited. If you want to stay at the AKL and rent points you can also get into the club level. I am thinking about it for a future trip.

Good luck!

Another vote for DVC!! We are staying at the Poly for 2 nights (one is our free night) and then the rest of the trip at Boardwalk Villas.

If you don't (or can't) do DVC I would recommend Port Orleans. Df and I both think this is a super romantic resort (at night mostly) plus it's still on property!!

I have nothing to add, but every time I see this thread pop up, I get N*Sync's "I Drive Myself Crazy" stuck in my head because of the title! So thank you, for the wonderful '90's flashback! :rotfl:
