Does anyone know if you need to take the counterpart (paper) part as well as photo card bit, when hiring a car.

:woohoo:

Terms and conditions of most hiring companies say you need both parts but they rarely ask to see it, but if they do and you don't have the paper part then I guess they can refuse to hire the car to you.

Claire ;)

Dh takes both parts of his licence but has never been asked to show the paper part, yet.

I've only ever been asked once, and that was in LA. Luckily I had it with me, or it could have been no car for me.

For the space it takes its better to be safe than sorry.

I would say you would need to have with you both bits and wouldn't take the chance of only taking half the licence.

You def need both parts Ive never been asked for the paper counterpart, but even so, if you got stopped by the police and they asked for it I can see it causing a lot of hassle if you have not got it. I always keep it in the glove box of the hire car just in case.

DH always drives and shows both parts ,( photo card and paper one). :car:

It's always best to be prepared as you never know .:)
