Driving Licence Question

Even though we moved over 12 months ago I still haven't got round to changing the address on my driving licence.

With only 5 weeks or so to go I think it may be too late to do this as I need to update to a new photo one from my old paper one.

My real question is, when getting your car at the airport, will it matter that my address on my licence does not match the address I have now?

Do they check anything like this?

Sorry for the stupid question, but I can't remember.

Thanks

Craig

All they're really interested in is whether you actually have a license. If they query it just tell them you've recently moved and haven't changed the address yet.

Personally I would get it changed. They may have never checked before but you may be the first.

It would be better to be on the safe side. I've never had an imprint done but that not to say I might this time.

Also it is an offence not to change it here in the UK

i had to produce my documents to a police station 3 months after i moved and i had'nt changed my Driving Licence and i got cautioned. That was the last i heard but it is worth changing it asap i would say

I lost my pink licence a month before our holiday last August. I applied for a new one (photo card) at the post office and had them check it (£4 extra) as I needed my passport to verify my identity and didn't want to part with it that close to our holiday (only certain P.O.s offer a checking service) but it only took 10 days to come back to me. I don't know whether it's the same for change of address.

Hi Libby, as it's a change of address it's free, I did mine 2 weeks ago & it came back after just over a week. You have to take both the picture licence with you on holiday(credit card size) & the other bit (like old paper licence).

That's good to know, as I thought you'd get charged the £4 anyway if you asked the post office to check it. (mine cost £17 for relacing lost licence + £4 checking fee).

I think it would be worth a call to the DVLA to see what their turnaround time is at the moment - to be on the safe side.

When we went back in 1999 - they did check the address on our licences, because the person dealing with us commented on the name of the house we lived in at the time (Cherry Tree Cottage).

It might be possible to pay a bit extra to get an overnight service or something - I am not certain this is available but might be worth enquiring.

HTH.

Would be interested to know how you get on :)

I'm going to send it off this week.

The info says it will come back in 15 working days, but looks like others have got it quicker than that.

My main concern was sending off my passport, as they can't guarantee it will be returned in time for my hols. Instead I can send my birth certificate, and get a "responsible" person to verify my photo.

So I'm off to get a lovely photo done this evening, and hopefully I'll post it off tomorrow.

I want a photo licence ideally so I don't have to carry my passport to the parks to collect my tickets that I have booked on-line for US/IOA and SW.

I'll let you known how quick it comes back.

Thanks for all your responses

Craig

BTW - check out my countdown!!!! Bring it on. I remember setting it up at something like 400 days. :p

I can confirm that speed - I got mine back just 3 weeks ago after just a week.

My wife did remind me that 3 years after moving is a lot longer than reasonable to do it, and it's a £1,000 fine (yep, a whole grand).

Have fun!

Andy

Just to let you know, I got my shiny new licence today.

About 10 days in total I think, not bad at all.

Cheers
