Driving in california

Hi, we're going to DL in a few weeks and I have some questions about driving in LA. I've driven in Orlando before, but its 6 years ago now so have a couple of silly questions about things that may have changed or be different in LA.

1. Petrol stations - do they still do that weird thing where you have to pay in advance?
2. Do they do pay at the pump now like we do - and if so does it work with UK credit cards?
3. How do tolls work now - I understand most maned toll booths are gone, but I've not read about any auto-payment systems (sunpass?) you get from the rental company for LA like I think there is in Orlando.
4. Can you turn right on red in California?

i've never driven in california, but i suppose i could take a stab at your questions (you might be able to google the answers)..

1. i think that's pretty much how it is everywhere in the states - it's that way everywhere i've driven in the states in any case. You have to either pay in advance or pay at the pump using a credit card.

2. i don't know the answer about UK cards, since i always pay with an american card (i use it when i'm in the states)

3. i don't know the answer. However, if they have automatic tolls in california, then the rental company will probably rent you an auto-payment system for some per/day fee. I would think this information is available from the car hire companies.

4. yes. right turn on red, after stopping (and yielding to traffic and pedestrians) is the norm in almost all the 50 states. However, you must be careful as it's not permitted at every intersection. I believe in california, if there is a red arrow, you are NOT allowed to turn right on red. And also if there is a sign saying it's not permitted. when you pick up your car, i would ask them there. Also, you can probably google california driving rules.
