I am driving from Syracuse Ny. I was wondering should I order a hotel room b4 I go . Should I plan my destenation to stop. or should i drive as far as I can then get a hotel! I need some help. We will need to connecting rooms. We are a family 0f 7! Some help please. :teeth:

Hoping for an answer here as well. We are driving from Seneca Falls :) I am assuming I need to PLAN our stop since we leave on Thanksgiving. Rooms may be in short order for us then.

For a family of seven, needing connecting rooms, I would definately make a ressie. The hard part is knowing where you want to stop.

How long do you plan on driving and when are you leaving?

The popular places to stop are Fredericksburg, VA, Lumberton, NC, Santee, SC and Brunswick, GA. My personal feeling is once I get as far as Brunswick, I might as well keep going. From there, it's about 200 miles to Disney.

Book a room before you go...especially if you are traveling on a Fri., Sat., or Sun.! We couldn't find a hotel from South Carolina all the way into Wash. D.C. on the way home from WDW!!

I would book a room before leaving. We drove from Mass. and booked a room at Rocky Mount, NC. For us this was about 12-13 hours of driving. When we got to the hotel they were turning away people who did not have reservations. Also, since you have 7 people you will probably need two rooms. There are some other good stopping points listed in a previous post depending on how long you want to drive.

About how far are some of the stopping points listed from Disney? I'd like to have about 6 hours or so left for the 2nd day of driving.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

We drive from Maryland & have always stopped for the night. One time we stopped in Brunswick, Ga.....another time in Hardeeville, SC. I would definitely make a reservation.

That will be a pretty ambitious first day! If you want about 6 hours the second day you would need to stay around Santee, SC.,but that doesn't include any stops. You could go a little further (about 45 miles) to Walterboro SC also.

It's about 3 and 1/2 to almost 4 hours to WDW from Brunswick Ga.--a lot depends on traffic of course.

We have driven from NJ a few times, even drove down to the keys a few times. We like Hampton Inn, on their website they have a way to see all of their locations along a route (I-95) for instance, I print out everything past 6-7 hours of driving and then when we start to get tired I just call ahead the hotel nearest where we are. Have a safe trip.

I would book the rooms before you go. Some cities (like Brunswick and Savannah) you can get on Hotwire as well if you want.

We once went 95 just before Christmas - so a VERY busy time to go down. There was construction that added, I am not kidding, like THREE hours to our trip - it was terrible! I had already made and paid for a hotel room and at first I was sort of annoyed because we'd have to drive much later into the night to get to it. However I realized when we got there that the hotels were turning away people without reservations - every sign we passed said "hotel full". I think everyone hit that delay and got messed up on their plans.

In all the trips I've taken I've usually had more problems if I did *not* have an advance reservation. Any regular ressie you can usually cancel by 6pm if you really want to do so. Sometimes we've discovered that a city was hosting some event (like some kind of car race) and the whole town was booked for even 2 hours in any direction.

I personally like Brunswick but that might be too long of a drive for you! It is cheaper than Savannah and I like the area a lot.

Make a reservation.

We once ran into the State Music Teacher's convention. We were ready to stop for the night and every clerk told us there wasn't a room for 100 miles. :guilty:

We're driving from Westchester County, NY for the first time (excited and nervous), and we plan to stop in Fayetteville, NC. We made a reservation, since we can always cancel it before 6:00 p.m. on the day of arrival. We opted for Fayetteville since it seems to be around the midway point for us, and there were several motels to choose from.

I forgot to add:

We always look for a place that has a FREE hot breakfast buffet. Holiday Inn Express is a favorite.

Also, always join the rewards club for that hotel chain. It can speed up check-in and you may get a email with coupons.

I drive down from NJ... I usually make my stop in Manning SC... There are a few hotels off the highway.. My favorite one there is Ramada Inn Express.. There is a continental breakfast... McDonald's also is not too far away.... There really is no need to make a prior reservation, but it wouldn't hurt.
