Driving from Long Island...where to stop?

We will be driving down from long island. Someone said to stop in Brunswick, Georgia. Has anyone ever done this? How long from NYC to Disney? We would be leaving early, early on a Saturday morning...would like to arrive at AKL by 1:00 Sunday. Have only driven down to Mississippi before. Took about 19 hours. Thanks!

It takes about 20 hours (sometimes less) from NYC so add whatever LI time makes sense. The halfway point is Fayetteville NC but there are clusters of motels at major I-95 intersections about every 40 miles or so before and after that. Lumberton, Florence, NOT South of the Border.

We once left at dawn and got as far as Savannah, so that's a possibility too.

I have stayed in Kingsland Georgia. Kingsland is right on the border of Florida. It is about a 2.5 hour ride from there to Disney. I like getting as much of the driving done as possible on the first day when not driving straight thru. There are several good hotels there. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. There are also several places to eat that are in walking distance, two gas stations, and a Super Wal-Mart right down the road. The hotels are about 1 minute away from I-95. We left at 2:00 am and got there around 5:00 pm

Thanks for the replies! We do want to get as much driving done the first day as we can. When we drive down to MS its about the same distance and we do half and half. For disney we want to do all but about 5 hours the first day. Thanks again!
