Only one driver (me) and a 14 year old.

I will not be in a hurry to get there, want to take my time.

Can anyone suggest where to stop at? Certainly, want to spend the night at least one night.

Thanks, guys.

When I drove from Beaumont, I stopped in Lake City for the night. In the morning I only had about 2 hrs to go. I made it there in about 10 hours or so.

If you don't want to drive that far, Pensacola or Tallahassee are closer to the FL border. Then you would have about 4-5 hrs in the morning.

When we lived near DFW, we used to stop in NO because we have family there. But if we hadn't, I would have tried to get to Mobile or even Pensacola. That would be about halfway especially if you took I-20 to Jackson MS and then down through Hattiesburg to I-10 at Mobile.

Coming from Dallas in my opinion I would want to go further than New Orleans. We drive from northwest LA. Have stayed in Tallahassee. We like to drive the majority of the trip on the first day so we can get to WDW at a reasonable time.

Unless you have a hankering to actually *visit* New Orleans, I wouldn't choose to stop there. No need to go through the traffic and more expensive hotels, some of which have outrageous parking fees.

If you took I-20 and then go south from Jackson, MS, I'd aim for Mobile or Pensacola (or even a beach day at Destin or Panama City).
If you take I-10...you can bypass NOLA by taking I-12 across the north side of Lake Pontchartrain. We used that a couple of weekends ago, and spent the night in Covington, LA.

When we went down in June, I was the only one driving too. On the way down we only stop for a couple hours at the TX/LA boarder, not something I would do again. On the way back we stop at Mobile, that seem to work out ok.

Mobile was our stop for the night as well going from Dallas to Tampa. What was a LONG time ago. For work, not for fun.
