Although I swore I would never drive down to Disney again, if it's the only way I can go during Xmas then I am really considering it! DH & I have been throwing around the idea of going to WDW for Xmas with the kids.

Besides tricky weather any other reason I should be thinking of that would make it worth it to just pay the high cost of airfare? We would be driving down i95. Leaving the Sat. before Xmas. Will the traffic be a nightmare?

Airfare would be aprox. $1200-$1500 for the 4 of us. Driving would be $400 in gas, we drive straight through so no hotel on the way down to pay for & I would pack a cooler with food, drinks, & snacks.

We are driving as well (I-75 south); 2 adults and 3 kids. My DH hates airports now and Xmas is crazy in the airports. We actually find it more relaxing to drive.:)

Joining you guys on the drive down. We are leaving on Dec. 28. My husband has free rooms at the Hilton so we are stopping in S. Carolina for the night then driving the rest in the morning. This is the first time driving, but with the price of airfare it makes sense. We will have 10 people with us and airfare would just be too much. We're taking the train back to Virginia, then driving home.

Weather Weather Weather.

Virginia actually has a tendency to have worse weather for driving in the winter than the NE, ice storms are more treacherous than snowstorms.

Watch the weather, if bad weather is forecast and you can leave one day ahead, the extra in hotel room $ would make up for the possibility of an even more expensive accident.

We are having to also consider driving for our Christmas trip this year. We are looking at $608/person right now to fly. That is $2400 for the four of us. Add a rental car to that:scared1:

I really, really, really hate the idea of driving, but flying at that price is waaaayyy out of line with what I want to pay.

We will be arriving in Virginia on the way home. If bad weather in Virginia, we'll just have to stay in Virginia for the night. We'll just have to miss a day of work, but that's ok. My husband actually has rooms on his Hilton card, so it wouldn't cost us anything.

We are doing it! We will be driving to Disney for Xmas!! We will leave on the 21st and drive till we get tired, sleep at a hotel and on the road again the next day. DH will be doing the majority of the driving and he wanted to break it up, it's about an 18 hour drive for us. We will do the same on the way home. We will be at AKV & SSR from the 22-28 and I can't wait! It's a surprise for the kids too! If the weather is bad we have the time on either end of the trip to leave earlier on our way down or later on our way home.
