Drive-In Movie Theaters

There's one just south of here, in Ruskin. I've heard a lot of great things about it but we haven't gotten around to checking it out yet.

There are a few not far from us and we love them! We haven't gone yet this summer, but I'm looking forward to it.

Azgal, you said you don't have to worry about cell phones -- heh! Last summer, this car parked practically on top of ours and the guy next to us was on his phone almost ALL evening. He got out of his car and stood by my window to talk so he wouldn't bother his friends. :sad2: My DH finally said something to him, so he quit.

We have one really close to us in Paola, KS! I haven't been since I was in high school. We are planning on going when there is something that the kids would like. $6 for adults and $1 for kids. You can bring your own snacks too!

Yea, there are a whole other set of annoyances at the drive in. Smoking is one. I'm not picky about smoking, but sitting right next to a chain smoker for 4 hours gets to be a little much.

Last time, the people next to us decided to stay inside their vehicle with it running so they could have A/C :confused3 . Then I guess they got condensation on the windsheild so they needed to use the wipers w/squirter. We sit outside. That windsheild washer fluid did not make a good popcorn topping :sad2:

My favorite...."hey buddy - guess what happens when you rest your foot on the brake pedal?"

We go to one in Warwick, NY, about 45 minutes to an hour from here. It's a long trip, so we only go once or twice a summer, but it's fun!!

I love going there! I have family and friends that live a bit closer to it then I do (I'm in Passaic County, so right by you!) so I'm up that way all the time. I definately like it more than conventional movie theaters. Too bad there aren't so many around any more.

Would that be the one in Auburn? I work about a mile from that one. Every year they say "its the last year", and every year they come back. I'm going to try to take the kids this summer so they can experience it before it really does close.

We go to the one in Auburn as well and have heard the same thing about it being the last year every year as well. Everytime they say that the lines get longer to get in. I did notice last weekend one of the theaters was not open and only 5 had movies going. Anyway, we love the drive-in and try to go several times during the summer. It is nice, we can grab a pizza, sodas and popcorn and watch 2 movies. DS8 can snooze or play if he doesnt want to watch the movie and he isn't annoying anyone else around him.

Well we have the second oldest one in the country, at least that's what they say. The Saco, Maine Drive-in opened in 1939 and we love going to it. We also are waiting for July 7th so DW can see Johnny Depp again. Okay I'll admit it I'm looking forward to seeing Johnny also.

we have a drive in movie theater near us in the front range of colorado, its pretty cool.

this is ours:

used to go to this one when I was little, then it closed for a few years. Luckily someone opened it back up. The first few rows still have the original outdoor speakers - but you can pick up the sound through the radio. The refreshment stand is the original - they work wonders back there in that small space. All the workers are friendly and wonderful - the owners make sure it is run smoothly and people are as considerate of others as possible. We love it and go as often as possible. Just bummed they aren't getting Pirates on opening weekend!!!

They do 2 or 3 movies a night. They do many family films while still mixing it up a little.

We used to go to one in Avon, NY (south of Rochester)- three screens with two features per night at each - so you watched a movie at one screen and then could pick from three screens for your second feature. We miss that, but Midway is much better run and the concessions are much better.

:wizard:

We have one in our town too! For $5.00 you get to see two movies! We sometimes bring our own snacks, but we like to patronize the concession stand popcorn:: to show our support and appreciation.

Oh, I almost forgot.......the best part? KIDS GET IN FREE!!!! :cheer2:  :cheer2:

We've got three nearby. I've never been to a drive in, so we attempted to go to the Silver Moon Drive In to see Cars, but the movie filled up ten cars before we got in.

We've also got Fun Lan, which looks like it's headed for becoming housing, since there's a condo community that was built right next to it.

Then there's the Ruskin drive in.

Can't believe I've never been-but before the summer is over, I'll definitely be at one-seems appropriate to see Cars at a Drive In!

We don't have any near us now in SC, but there is still one where I grew up in western PA and there is also one where I used to live in Bel Air, MD. They are SOOOO FUN, and bring back so many memories of my childhood!!

Do any of you still have drive in movie theaters around you? We are very lucky to have a fantastic one.

America's Oldest Drive-In

And can I just say that it is my very favorite way to see a movie. Since we moved, it's about 40 minutes away, but we still go several times each summer. They play double features of the newest movies (am counting the days til 7/7...POC2!) Admission is $6.50 for adults, but remember...2 movies.

:thumbsup2 I am about a hour away (poke-o-nose) This Drive-In is Nice!!!!

We have one near us in SE Ohio, we went there to see Cars the weekend it came out. Had a blast! You can bring in your own food, they don't care. $6 per adult, kids were free, I don't know what the cutoff age was tho.

We go to the Silver moon drive-in here in Lakeland. You get 2 movies for 3.50 kids 9 and under are free. They use to do carload nights on Thursdays but they don't do that anymore. My kids and I go all the time. The most recent movies were cars and the wild on one screen and Fast and Furious 2 and 3 on the other.

i go to the drive in 2 or 3 times a summer there are 2 near but i hate to say they are in the slums where you get shot for having a thick wallet

Yup! That's the one, we went last summer to see Herbie there, the kids had a great time, we were in the mini-van row and they made a bunch of new friends and were playing until movie time. Of course we had four vans in a row with dead batteries at the end too but it was still fun! :teeth:
