drinking around the world legal question

It's not illegal where the poster lives, nor in another 23 or so states for a minor (under 21) to drink with the parent or legal guardian.

I understand, but you have to adhere to the laws that apply wherever you are. ;) Kids in Europe can legally drink at teens, but not when they are in America.

Pretty sure OP was asking so as to AVOID doing anything illegal.

I see now that the OP only has 3 posts. I guess we don't all think alike. If I am going to plan something for my family, I look things up via Google and make phone calls to get my ducks in a row. I would never think to go on a message board for moral/legal advice or suggestions.

Of course, but the OP clearly stated they didn't want to break any laws or get in trouble :confused3

Keep in mind that just because state law allows for it doesn't mean that a specific establishment will. Usually states allow private business owners to be stricter than state law (but never more permissive, of course) so even if FL law did have an exception for parents providing alcohol to their minors I wouldn't expect that Disney would have the same.

I think there is a difference between asking for "legal advice" and asking about a specific law. Glad the OP got their answer though. :)

I'm taking my DS (22) and DD (20) on a college graduation trip to Orlando. We want to drink around the world, but DD will not be of legal age when we go. I know they will not sell her alcohol, but can I buy a drink and share it with her? I live in Ohio and it is legal here for a parent to buy their child a drink in a bar or restaurant. Just want to know if that's legal in Florida.

I guess not. Oh hey, maybe you could go on some rides instead?

This is a site for Disney planning. They asked a question about what is allowed at Disney. It wasn't a moral question.

Don't you think if you googled something about Disney this site might come up as a source?

Why would you be on this site if you think people should use Google for planning? I really don't get your point.

I learned something today. I had no idea so many states allowed someone under 21 to be served if with their parents.

No, it is illegal. Why would you want to teach your children it is okay to do things that are illegal?

They don't, hence why they are on here asking for the info since it is different from where they live. In NZ it is legal for parent to supply their children with alcohol too.

In my state (WI), it is legal for anyone underage to consume alcohol if they are with their parent/legal guardian. That includes bars/restaurants.

I don't believe the same law applies in FL, though.

In Australia, the legal age to consume and purchase alcohol is 18. So different to the US. My sister will finally be 21 for our next trip so she can't wait to try some of the alcoholic drinks at EPCOT. It's strange that she can't enter licences premises over in the USA but has been able to do so here for over 2 years!

Isn't it good that the OP asked the question, then?

She said she would be quite happy eating her way around the world and making fun of DS and I as we drink, lol. Thanks for all the help.

:rotfl: That's kind of what my brother did for awhile in college; he was always the keeper of information that those who were drinking had forgotten. (my brother, who was totally bored by booze for a LONG time because he was allowed to have sips of wine at home, and therefore it was part of the world, not some big forbidden thing...didn't quite work the same for me, but I like beer not wine, and my mom worked at a winery, not a brewery (boo))

As an FYI - even though all fifty states have the legal alcohol consumption age at 21 years or over, it's not a federal law. Each state regulates what their citizens AND visitors will do. In some states, you can buy any alcohol in grocery stores. In some states, only beer and wine. In others, only beer. And in some, nothing and you have to go to a state store or distributor (looking at you Pennsylvania).

It's a state law, not a federal one. And it's important to check out these things before you go on vacation. Or you'd be like us, stuck in a dry country in Texas.

PA changed this to where beer under a case can be bought outside of distributors. Another goofy pa law you cant sell alcohol and gas at the same place

I also had NO IDEA that other states allow this! Good to know.

FYI am pretty sure no matter what question you have about Disney if googled the DIS will show up as a source for answers! LOL

Morals? Really??? The OP clearly was just asking about the rules pertaining to FL law.

;)
*edit - i did not realize this was ohio law

I was about to post this with an explanation but you edited your post, but anyway.

http://codes.ohio.gov/orc/4301.69

(B) No person who is the owner or occupant of any public or private place shall knowingly allow any underage person to remain in or on the place while possessing or consuming beer or intoxicating liquor, unless the intoxicating liquor or beer is given to the person possessing or consuming it by that persons parent, spouse who is not an underage person, or legal guardian and the parent, spouse who is not an underage person, or legal guardian is present at the time of the persons possession or consumption of the beer or intoxicating liquor.

I almost thought this was the case for Alabama (it isn't) we were in Birmingham, AL for the third straight year for the BBVA Compass Bowl. My youngest son (20.75 years old) is in the Pitt Band and for the past 3 years after the Pep rally we go the a BBQ place called Jim and Nick's. My oldest, 22, has been tasting various tasty beverages as we call them and we ordered a pitcher of Sangria. With what looked like a half a million Ole Miss fans the place was slammed. The bar was behind and after we had our meal we still didn't have our drink the waitress said she would get it as soon as possible. Well 5 minutes later she comes back with a small pitcher and 4 glasses. My DS20.75 looks at the glass looks at my wife and I and was like okayyyy and we shared the drink and he got to tell his band buddies that he "got served".

Wow. Until this moment, I hadn't any idea that there were any exceptions anywhere, ever.

My son is in the University of Cincinnati band, he has been to 3 bowl games, too. The first one was NOLA for the Sugar Bowl 1 week before his 19th birthday, then Memphis for the Liberty Bowl 1 week before his 21st birthday, and then this year as a legal 21 year old in Charlotte for the Belk Bowl. The opportunities for the Bandies in college is amazing.

Past two years Pitt's band for reasons no one knows has played at games in Canada, one for the Bills and one for the Alouettes a CFL team. The drinking age in Canada is 19. After he spent like $7 dollars for one drink, he now knows why we don't buy alcohol when we eat out.

Next year there is no way we are going back to the BBBBVVVVAAAA silent Q bowl :goodvibes since we are no longer in the Big East.

If Cinci ever goes there and you want to go to a cheap bowl game drop me a PM. Anytime you do the same thing three years in a row you get to know the lay of the land.
