I'm taking my DS (22) and DD (20) on a college graduation trip to Orlando. We want to drink around the world, but DD will not be of legal age when we go. I know they will not sell her alcohol, but can I buy a drink and share it with her? I live in Ohio and it is legal here for a parent to buy their child a drink in a bar or restaurant. Just want to know if that's legal in Florida.

No you can not do that and if you are caught by the right CM you can be removed from the park and even face charges if security decides to get the police involved.

From my understanding many people believe their state allows them to give their children alcohol but that is only on your property and most of the times it can still fall under child endangerment and providing minors access to alcohol.

I worked at Epcot and if we every suspected that anyone under the age of 21 was drinking we called security right away because the company could get in a lot of trouble for it.

In my state (WI), it is legal for anyone underage to consume alcohol if they are with their parent/legal guardian. That includes bars/restaurants.

I don't believe the same law applies in FL, though.

Doesn't look like Florida's laws allow for this with a quick google of the drinking laws of the state. There was a thread not too long ago about not serving someone who had a license expire while on vacation - seems they're pretty strict.

Aside from that, even though it isn't illegal it doesn't mean the establishment has to allow it. It's up to their discretion and I highly doubt WDW would take the risk. Bartenders are pretty good about watching for the old 'buy and pass' trick. I wouldn't chance it.

Yep, looks like Florida does NOT allow that. But Ohio, and many others states, do. Interesting.

Just talked to DD, who is a culinary student. She said she would be quite happy eating her way around the world and making fun of DS and I as we drink, lol. Thanks for all the help.

I know back when i was 22 i had a duplicate license because i lost mine right before we went away and a lot of places in Orlando wouldn't serve me because it was a duplicate license

That law changed last year. If you are at a bar or restaurant with your kids under 21 cannot drink, but if they served in the military, then they can.

I was on vacation in Florida two years ago on my birthday and could not get served a beer because I did not have my license with me to prove my age; I was turning 45! I had my teenage son and husband with me! And I do not look younger than 21 by all means, so Florida is very strict about making sure you are of legal drinking age.

Definitely not allowed. I know this because I was turned down to be served at the pool bar because my license had expired (I'm 26) and despite my dad standing right beside me buying our drinks, and me having my expired license, the bartender still made me go up to the room and get my passport.

Wisconsin - isn't that the only state where a DUI is the equivalent of a traffic ticket? Lol

I have been asked for ID before when purchasing alcohol but I've never been stopped and asked for ID while innocently drinking it.

This is according to the WI Dept of Revenue Alcohol and Tobacco webpage *updated on Jan 7th, 2013

Can an underage person possess and consume alcohol beverages on licenses premises? Yes. Persons under age 21 may possess and consume alcohol beverages if they are with their parents, guardians or spouses of legal drinking age; but this is at the discretion of the licensee. The licensed premise may choose to prohibit consumption and possession of alcohol beverages by underage persons.

No, it is illegal. Why would you want to teach your children it is okay to do things that are illegal?

It's not illegal where the poster lives, nor in another 23 or so states for a minor (under 21) to drink with the parent or legal guardian.
