I have a question about the drink station. Do any of you bring a mug with you for refills at the drink station? Does DCL have refillable mugs like the resorts?:drinking1

HI!

We brought refillable mugs but did not really need them. They do not sell them as in the park, but if you buy a drink of the day it comes in a souvenier glass that you keep and can re use for whatever. We had our silver castaway thermos but only used them a few times. I think it comes down to personal preference.

The drinks at the beverage station are free. Mugs don't really hold that much. There are ample cups available. It is certainly your choice if you wish to pack and wash mugs. They may come in handy, but I don't really think so.

If you do bring your own, and fill up at the beverage station, you are asked to use the cups provided to fill up your mug.

Yes, you are asked to use a new cup each time you get a drink from the beverage station... What's interesting is that in the resorts, you can use the refill mug they sell you to do all the refills you want; however, on the cruise line you have to use a new cup each time... I really don't understand the difference... ( And, no I'm not trying to start a debate or get flamed. On the cruise, I do as asked and use a new cup each time).

No debate or flaming, but it's because if someone has an infection (whether they realize it or not) on land it is a lot easier to separate people, remove them from contact with other people or CM's, contain the infection and stop the infection.
On a cruise ship people are contained in one small space and therefor a common cold or norovirus spread's a lot more quickly - guest to guest, guest - crew, crew - crew and then the ship is unable to operate if the crew are sick, and therefor unable to accept new guest's.

The ship is like a 'bubble' and both the Magic had to cancel a cruise to deep clean everything, carpet's, drapes, every surface to get rid of the virus.

A new cup each time might not be great for the environment, but it helps stop germ's spreading.

We took our refillable mugs with us and barely used them. They didn't hold any more than the cups did so it was kind of a waste.

At the advice of many here on DIS, on our first Disney cruise I packed my giant red cup (BIG) for the drink stations. It never left the suitcase. :rotfl:

I found that when I wanted it, we weren't near the stateroom. When I was in the room, it was never really when I wanted a beverage.

So... we just use the cups at the drink stations now.

one word: NOROVIRUS.

As quoted previously above!

:thumbsup2

On the Dream there is no sign about using a new cup, I think its because your cup does not touch any thing. You push a button to start the flow, on the other ships you use your cup to push a level in order to start the flow.

newbie here... so dumb question time...

So the soda's are free?? This is our first time cruising and we've called a LOT of cruise lines and found most you had to buy a soda card/package/whatever... is this not the case with DCL? (how wonderful to think I may get to drink something other than water!!! :) )

You pay for soda if you order from room service, buy at any bar/lounge, or order from a walking around waiter.

Free with meals or at the outside self-service location (Deck 9 on Magic/Wonder; Deck 11 on Dream/Fantasy).

On CC free at the self-service locations or one cabanas(if you get one), but you pay if ordered from a waiter or one of the bars.

juice is available in the morning.. the usual..orange, apple.. I want to say one fancy one like pineapple too, or mango.

in the afternoon, maybe not.. think it was just iced tea...

DCL used to have a fee based refillable mug program. You purchased the refillable mug like at the resorts and then you could get unlimited soda around the ship (soda's were always complimentary in the dining rooms). A few years ago DCL did away with that program and now has complimentary soda at the drink stations, in the dining rooms and on CC from the drink machines.

If you order soda's from room service, any bar/lounge or from any roaming server you will be charged for it.
