Dressing Kids for Disney...I'm obsessed! pics plz!

Ok, my tag says "Disney Veteran". Perhaps...we've been there 5x's, so I guess I'm not a novice.

Now, please, don't get me wrong, the outfits I've seen here are darling and I'm sure added to the overall magic of the trips. But most people don't go to such efforts. They just wear regular clothes. If you want to wear something Disney, perhaps a tee shirt, but that's as far as most people go. Do remember its hot there in the summer, a lot of walking, dress for the weather and comfort, don't try to be part of the act. The majority of visitors to the park don't dress in character. Like I say, no criticism intended, but I think my kids would feel uncomfortable being the only one there wearing a Disney costume to a character meal, or whatever. Perhaps mouse ears, or something simple, something they could take off easily if it made them uncomfortable.

I just wouldn't want someone who hasn't been there before to read this thread and think its the norm to dress up in character for the parks. 99.99% don't--just casual clothes. I've been to many character and princess meals and the few kids I've seen in costumes looked uncomfortable. You won't feel uncomfortable or out of place just in casual clothes!

Those outfits are so adorable. Where do you find those huge applique's??? I have hunted for some even on Ebay and only found the little ones. I wanted to find some of the big princess ones for the shortalls that I have seen.

I made my girls some Tshirts for the trip, but that is about as creative as my non talented hands will let me get :rotfl: But I was thinking if I could find those applique's??? Maybe I could make some of those myself :thumbsup2

I do not know about others but I have never seen large ready made applique's for this.... it is more like a DIY applique for the overalls :artist: First, find fabric with large characters. Next, cut out the characters. Then, heat bond the character 'applique' to overalls. Finally, serge (is that the right that the term? I dunno) the edges. Now you have appliqued overalls! :Pinkbounc

I piece together many 'appliques' using freehand or coloring book pages as well. It is a little harder but makes a unique design that no others will have. Like I mentioned before, these overalls are very popular with the little girls where I live. One unfortunate little girl in my sons class had a few holiday outfits that self destructed on her thoughout the day... once I even considred having her change so I could run the outfit home and repair it... didn't do it but I REALLY wanted to- LOL!

To all who make these custom outfits - they are beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

I may have to go over to e-bay and take more of a look now! My DD likes to wear her princess dresses to character meals and also around the parks but we just got back today and it was too hot to wear a princess dress for very long so I always had a cool summer dress packed for her.

Yes, my DD did get special attention wearing her princess dresses. The cast members really are sweet in their attention and notice those extra special things. While wearing her Cinderella dress and also freshly styled at the B.B. Boutuiqe the valet cast members upon entering the GF deeply bowed to her and ran to get the doors all while giving sweet praises. Always cast members here and there will call out her "princess" name and ask how she is doing. It's cute.

Cute photos of all of your children. I remember the first year we went it seemed like all the little girls had on their princess dresses. So that's what we've been doing for the past couple of years.

My girls want to wear these dresses...I don't really do it so they get extra attention. I had an older couple say to us on the boat ride from the MK to the parking lot..."I just love seeing all the little girls in their dresses. That's one of my favorite things about Disney World." It almost made me cry!

I've already told my girls that they can pick out a new princess dress at DTD this year. I know they are expensive, but they are really nice. My husband jokes that we've definitely gotten our money's worth out of them!

I am loving all of the custom-made overalls! We are planning a trip Nov 2007 to take our DD Maddie for her 3rd birthday and I am already looking to buy a custom outfit for each of the 10 days we are there! I better start saving! :wizard: :teeth:

Thank you ladies for sharing your pics of your adorable kids! :goodvibes

You are some creative and wonderful Mamas!!! You've gotten my crafty juices flowing...we're going in Sept.(HOT, hot!) so I'll stick with cotton t-shirts...The mickey mouse ears tie dye job t-shirts are too cute.Lime is a good color! You can do more "Spots" and a couple mickeys and we could be walking hidden mickeys! I also want to do a cute pillow case dress for my DD. Just have to find the right pillow case. I'll save that for when it'd be a cute sundress and not a long dragging the floor dress!

Wow! I just found a couple of adorable pillowcase minnie dresses for a song on ebay! Cute, cute, cute, and I'm sure I could try to make one myself, but for those prices, I must just buy one already done :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I got my girls matching dresses at Gymboree from the Cherry Pie line for our trip in January. I think these will pass for Minnie at Chef Mickey's! (BTW, rumor is that this line MAY go on sale this week! :thumbsup2 )

Cute Pics everybody. But I agree with one post about PLEASE remember the heat. We have two little girls and we are planning our 4th trip. Even though t-shirts are expensive, they always get one as a souvenir. They have picked up earrings, necklaces, bows & "ears" etc on each trip, so we do the accessory thing. Much cooler!! They each have 5 princess outfits, that they opt not to wear due to the heat.

Here are some suggestions for attention getting for your little one without dressing them too hot:

Accessorize Disney Style!!

Personalized Disney Cast Member name tags are available at the 5 & 10 in MGM. You can pick your tag and once your little ones are wearing it, we are told every cast member looks for them and uses it as a way to single them out and come and speak to them by name!!

Re-use last years t-shirts if they fit!

For girls - dolls - the princesses seem to love it when they see a little girl carrying one of their dolls.

hi. i posted this as a new thread, but im not sure if i did it right (new to this stuff) so ill make a plea again. im trying to contact littleprissboutique to inquire about the beautiful outfits her dd was wearing. would like some for my dd 3. if you read this, could you please tell me how to contact you to ask you about some of the outfits? as i said, im new to dis boards and i dont know how to navigate all of this yet. thanks so much!

We are going in October. Will it be too hot for my princess to wear her Snow White (my trunk) and Cinderella dresses? I'm afraid it will be ... any thoughts?

Austinsmommy, I love that dress with the Mickey's all over it. Your kids are really cute.
