Ok, my tag says "Disney Veteran". Perhaps...we've been there 5x's, so I guess I'm not a novice.
Now, please, don't get me wrong, the outfits I've seen here are darling and I'm sure added to the overall magic of the trips. But most people don't go to such efforts. They just wear regular clothes. If you want to wear something Disney, perhaps a tee shirt, but that's as far as most people go. Do remember its hot there in the summer, a lot of walking, dress for the weather and comfort, don't try to be part of the act. The majority of visitors to the park don't dress in character. Like I say, no criticism intended, but I think my kids would feel uncomfortable being the only one there wearing a Disney costume to a character meal, or whatever. Perhaps mouse ears, or something simple, something they could take off easily if it made them uncomfortable.
I just wouldn't want someone who hasn't been there before to read this thread and think its the norm to dress up in character for the parks. 99.99% don't--just casual clothes. I've been to many character and princess meals and the few kids I've seen in costumes looked uncomfortable. You won't feel uncomfortable or out of place just in casual clothes!

But I was thinking if I could find those applique's??? Maybe I could make some of those myself

First, find fabric with large characters. Next, cut out the characters. Then, heat bond the character 'applique' to overalls. Finally, serge (is that the right that the term? I dunno) the edges. Now you have appliqued overalls!
.

I am way too addicted to them though!!!!!!!!!
My son is now too big to wear them..if they made the overalls in larger sizes, he would probably still be wearing them!!!!
