Dress Code

To be fair on the jeans thing, I have some some really great looks styled by pros using jeans.

Unfortunately, most cruise goers are not in the embrace of high fashion in that regard.

Also u nder this code I think zubaz are okay.

What are zubaz? (For the fashion unenlightened among us...)

Aren't Zubaz just tiger print sweat pants?

Think tiger print MC Hammer pants and you're close. Not strictly sweatpants although they are popular in athletics.

Edit to add: If someone came to Palo in solid gold lame MC Hammer pants, I would qualify that as dressing to impress. I'd be impressed. Or amazed, anyway.

I guess on the upside, they could spill food or get sick on their pants and no one would notice :-)

I think the jeans thing is simply a matter of practicality at this point.

I know most Country Clubs have fought this battle as they try to both attract younger members and encourage them to use the facilities for dining. The reality is, "designer jeans" have replaced khaki's and dress pants in most "non-formal" situations.

Even business professionals don't have a need for a lot of formal attire anymore. I suspect Disney doesn't want people to feel like they need a new wardrobe to take a cruise. I am actually looking forward to formal night and semi-formal night to have an opportunity to dress up. That said, I also would prefer to wear designer jeans, and a nice v-neck t-shirt under a sports coat to Palo not because it's more comfortable than khaki's and a button up or because "I'm on vacation", but because I think it looks and fits the ambiance better.

Seeing how some people dress these days, I think everyone's threshold of what is considered inappropriate is very different!

Based on some of the dresses I've seen on Formal Night, I agree.

Sadly I have seen both, a man wearing a "wife beater" type tank top and a man wearing what I would believe to be a bathing suit in the MDR. These were on different cruises and both times they remained there for the whole meal so it seems those are "allowed" no matter what is in writing. :(

On my last visit to Palo for brunch I saw 3 women in shorts, 1 in yoga/stretch pants, and 1 wearing a concert type tshirt. Meanwhile a man in nice khaki, below the knee shorts and a short sleeve button up shirt got sent back to change. He looked MUCH nicer than some of those women, so figure that one.

It would be nice to see them universally enforce their own policy just like a nice restaurant would. If a host/hostess/mattress d’ says you don’t meet the dress code, it’s not open for debate, you don’t eat there. But I’m a “play by the rules” type of guy.

Me, too. But that attitude doesn't go over well here on the boards. A lot of "it's my vacation, I'll dress as I like" people here.

While I'm sure that is sometimes the case, I think it's important not to mix up the desire for casual attire with defiance of rules. I for one, like that they allow designer jeans in Palo, however I wouldn't wear them if they weren't allowed.

But the biggest reason the dress code there has changed is probably because more and more people were trying to get in there wearing jeans.

I don't see Palo as a "casual attire" venue. Well, at least it didn't used to be. But it's headed that way.

There are many problems with this, the least of which is what happens if someone's luggage was lost and all they had was a swimsuit that was in their carry on? Obviously that wouldn't work at Palo or Remy, but in the MDR there should be some flexibility. Additionally, it can be difficult these days to determine what is considered a swimsuit and what isn't.

Palo and Remy both do enforce their dress code, Remy is a bit more strict about it though, but you aren't getting into either in a swimsuit. But in the example above, I would hope in such a situation that Palo or Remy would not charge the person or persons for not showing up if they called and explained what happened.

Bottom line to me is as long as you aren't dressed in something that reveals parts I would have to explain to a young kid (unless you are breast feeding a baby at the time), I don't care what you where, it is none of my business and I dress for what makes me comfortable within that reasonable limit as well, if someone doesn't like it, oh well. Now granted, I am not going to show up in a swim suit either, but still we don't need to judge other about how they are dressed.

That's because designer jeans are no longer considered casual to most of America, as many of the boardrooms, finer restaurants and Country Clubs in America now allow them. I don't consider jeans casual, depending what they are paired with. At least not casual in the way society normally associates the term today.

I can understand others feel differently. My only point is there is a distinction between "It's my vacation so I'll wear what I want" implying break the rules, and societal norms evolving in a way some disagree with.

I look WAY nicer in my jeans and boots than dress pants. But it's a cruise, so I'm not wearing jeans and boots, therefore I'll wear a dress.

Question: does a polo or Tommy Bahama silk shirt count as a 'collar' shirt for Palo? (probably just for brunch: I think DH will wear a tie for dinner there)

Does it have a collar?
