Dress code question

Okay, we are sailing on the 9/8 4 day cruise. This is our first cruise and we're not really sure what to expect as far as dressing for dinner. I know in our documents it says everything is pretty casual, but a couple of the restaraunts suggest jackets for men. Can anyone tell me how formal the dress needs to be?? Is a jacket and tie required for men, and how formal for women?? I just want to make sure we all pack the right stuff!!! Thanks!!

Strictly by definition (for men, anyway):

Formal = Tuxedo

Semi-formal = Jacket and Tie

Casual = Slacks, Polo shirt, but no shorts or tennis shoes.

That said, I saw TONS of guys wearing khakis and open shirts on formal nights! I hate that to no end!! GRRRRRRRRRR

Not a semi-formal night, mind you, but FORMAL night - that means where a tux was the suggested attire, these bozos were in loafers and polo shirts.... Sorry, but it bugs me. No class. And if that's not bad enough...

On our formal night in Lumiere's, which is by nature a very formal restaurant, the guy at the table next to us was in SHORTS!!! I kid you not. It was all I could do not to sling my pasta all over him! (Now how's that for class? )

The same is true for some women I'm afraid. I saw women on semi formal nights wearing shorts and a tshirt over their bathing suits. Total disregard for the dress code and the mood of the evening.

Remember though, that the first night aboard (Sat) is casual in every restaurant, no matter what your dining rotation...we happened to have Lumiere's on the first night, and were told to dress casually. My DH wore dockers and a button down shirt...

dress codes are not strictly enforced. On one cruise, against my recommendations, my husband wore khakis and a polo shirt every night to dinner...

Sometimes you just have to let the DHs be - arent there worse things to fight over? It is their cruise too and if they feel comfortable with everyone (including their wife & son) being dressed up in long skirts/pants then they should be able to dress however they wish. "Its my cruise too."
He will rent a tux for formal night (hopefully we'll have Lumiere's and skip Lumiere's when its rotation night) And on semi-formal night we'll hopefully go to Palos
Guess whose DH Im talking about? Guess I finally came to terms with it. And if you want to sling spaghetti at him go ahead - I may join you - lol

DS & I will be dressed in whatever the night calls for.

On the 4 day there are not ANY formal nights. The only night that will require a little more 'dress' will be your night in Tritons which requests a jacket to be worn by men. Many men will still be dressed more casually in dockers and polo's though. If you chose the adult alternative dining at Palo -- then you will want to take a men's jacket along for that evening also.
