dress code for lunch

Is there a dress code for lunch? I imagine most days we will be too busy to drag the kids and ourselves away from what ever we are doing to go get changed.

If you are going to do sit-down lunch then I would go resort casual. If you are doing say Pluto's and eating by the pool stay in your suit. If you are doing Topsiders/Beach Blanket I think swimsuits with a cover-up would be fine.

There really are lots of options for you.

Shorts are fine for lunch. :) As Mary said, if you want to stay in swimsuits with cover-ups then the buffet on Deck 9 or any of the "fast food" options on Deck 9 are good choices. DCL does ask that no bathing suits be worn in the main dining rooms. :)

I wore shorts and a vest top for Tritons for Lunch on the Wonder last week.

bathing suits seemed to be fine for the Beach Blanket Buffet on deck 9

We never ate lunch in the main dining rooms, but I always saw people in there with shorts. I wore shorts to breakfast in the dining rooms.

At the Beach Blanket Buffet, I wore my swim suit with shorts over to lunch there. I saw others doing the same/similar.

To no one in particular -

Please remember if you choose to eat in Lumiere's or Tritons, it is more formal than the buffet - so please cover up!

Personally I don't care what a person wears on the deck, but when I dine, I don't want to have it "in my face" regardless of how comfortable it is or how great a person thinks they look in it.

If this has ever happened to you, you will know exactly what I am talking about.

Rae--

I could tell you some stories about the things I've seen!

We had a wonderful brunch at Palo which has a great view. Sadly, a young guy with his swim suit sagging (no Tshirt) chose to slouch at the deck railing right outside Palo window and to flirt with the girls passing by. Not only did he turn the girls off, but it made me avoid looking out the nearby window.

Loved the Palo brunch and service though, not hurried, so serene.

ThreeCircles and Granna -
if people only "KNEW" what they really looked like....well, maybe they wouldn't.....but then again!!!!

Funny but oh so, unappetizing!

And thus the reason I am so uncomfortable wearing a swimsuit in the first place - People like this.....

Amen December 99...
Without getting into the formal/semi formal/tropical/cruise casual/ clothing for eating as it is a subject that has no end and you'll never get agreement and thus what makes life interesting.
Wear your swim suit on the deck, beach around the pool etc and don't worry about those that perhaps find you overweight, unsightly, not fashion savvy whatever. ENJOY yourself. You're on holiday, you'll probably never see any of these people again and snide comments or looks are so hurtful. We try to teach our children to act properly and with courtesy to others. Unfortunately many parents instill this attitude in their kids by their own actions.
It is THEM with the problem. NOT YOU.

I'm only donning a swimsuit while on this cruise so I can do things with my daughter - whether if it at the pools or at the beach. Otherwise - you will not see me in a suit because of the mentality like that. Unfortunately if you are overweight and you are in a swimsuit, in today's society, you are frowned upon. And I have searched high and low to try and find one that <b>I</b> feel comfortable in and won't hurt others that have to look at me. I do take others feelings into mind when finding a suit - I know there are overweight or unsightly people that don't - but I don't appreciate snide comments when I am in one. And then I get snide comments when I chose to lay on the beach chairs in shorts and tshirt because then I'm taking a chair that could be for someone else even though my child may be swimming in that pool - can't win I guess.

I never imagined wearing a bathing suit to the dining rooms. I was wondering if shorts were acceptable.
Thanks for all the help

I don't think that anyone meant to be offensive within this thread. The issue is not about wearing a swimsuit at the pool, on the beach, or on decks 9 and 10. The issue is about the restaurants.

Disney is *EXCEPTIONALLY* clear about what attire they expect guests to wear within each of the three main restaurants and within Palo. This information is spelled out in your ticket book, on the web site, in the Personal Navigators, and, I'm sure, elsewhere. I really don't think it is too much to ask, nor is it too difficult, to abide by these simple requests. It makes a more enjoyable experience for everyone. And, if you don't like the requests you can always dine at another more casual location.

Now, as far as the issue of body image, I would only wish that everyone could be comfortable with their bodies. Don't let someone ruin your vacation because you believe (or they ARE) being overly involved and critical of what you look like in a swimsuit. BUT, at the same time, respect those individuals who want to enjoy a nice, elegant dinner.

I think short's are fine in the dining rooms at breakfast and lunch, but please be sure and wear a shirt, some of what I saw in March was a little questionable.

I don't think anyone meant any offense. I am not overweight, well, maybe a little:D, but I'm not particulary comfortable wearing a bathing suit in public. When I get off my chair, I usually have a towel around me or cover up on. Personally, the only time I take offense at what someone wears, is if they look too good!

December99,

Just wanted to let you know that I probably wear a bigger size than you, but when I cruised in February, I decided it didn't matter - I was going to wear a bathing suit, and people could just deal with it. And guess what? They did! I went swimming in the adult pool, wore my suit and coverup to the breakfast buffet, went snorkeling at St. John and Castaway Cay, even had a full body massage (w/ no clothes!), and no one made me feel uncomfortable - because for probably the first time in my life, I made a conscious decision not to care.

I'm not saying that I'll be running down to the local beach or pool to strut my stuff anytime soon, and I've got enough body issues to rival most people, but on the cruise, don't let anyone prevent you from having a great time just because of a swimsuit.

And don't forget the sunscreen! :smooth:

April

P.S. - Check out Junonia for great swimsuits - I highly recommend the Skirted Swimsuit!

When we cruised last December, the family (2 moms, 3 kids) at the table next to us wore their pyjamas to Tritons for dinner. I kid you not - flannel pjs. And no they had not lost their luggage - we saw them at every meal in alternate forms of undress.

Perhaps they were from Kentucky...

Careful with those comments Buckaroo's Dad.....
June 15th is fast approaching and you know the turmoil that will be forthcoming :)
