So, we were about to book our vacation yesterday, but I'd heard some good things about DU and decided to see what they could give me. Long story short, I finally got my quote this morning and it's exactly the same as what I can get via the Disney website. So what's the benefit of DU? :confused3

I use Small World Vacations for my WDW trips. Their prices are the same as through Disney directly but they will also watch for discounts for me and automatically change my reservation if they can get me that discount. They have saved me thousands of dollars over the years. It saves me from having to be watching for these discounts myself which I don't have time to do. I would imagine DU would do the same for you.

They will watch for any special offers and call for you, make your dining reservations-basically they save you a lot of time. Payments are very easy to make online at their website, and you'll get a detailed printable itinerary before your trip.

they can make your ADR's for you first thing in the morning on your 180 day. They check for discounts that can be applied frequently. they sponsor the disboards, by booking there you help to defray the cost.

Yes, they will almost always be the same as the Disney official site. BUT...for an example. On April 7, as a ton of folks here, sat on hold with Disney CRO, trying to book resort stays with free dining, I sat and enjoyed the DIS boards, did a bit of housework, ate breakfast, got my dd off to school, came back to the boards, read for a bit. By noon time, my DU agent had emailed me that she had gotten me free dining at POP. I have better things to do than sit on the phone, waiting to be able to get those special discounts. My DU agent does it for me. She knows that I am a AAA member, I have the Disney Visa card, and I always have an AP in hand. So..she can apply any possible discounts that come available. And I don't have to do anything.
I do like to make my own ADRs, so I do that but give her all the conf. numbers/times so she can imput them into my itinerary.
You don't get the immediate gratification with DU but you don't spend a ton of time on the phone either.

Thanks everyone! I was looking at it from the viewpoint of "I wanna save money." Sometimes, "I wanna save time" can be even better. :) That, combined with the fact that I hate to talk on the phone and DU or Small World (who I also emailed for a quote) can do it all for me means it's probably worth it to me!

Thanks for the perspective/info! :) :thumbsup2

ITA, that is why we always use an agency (we use Magical Memories Travel). They save you time, and usually money. They'll also do all of the leg work for you as far as dining arrangements, etc and generally have some great tips and time savers for you to use while you are on your trip. We have never been disappointed! :goodvibes Good luck!

I found out this same thing when I got a quote through them. I actually asked them the same question you are asking here.

They said they would watch for any discounts and make dining reservations for you. Well, I can do that myself so I just booked through Disney.

I'd be inclined to agree with you except I don't have to pay any extra to do it through them, so I think I'll save myself some time and use an agency. :)

I think if you have the time and the interest that's also a good option. I travel frequently. Constantly checking the boards to see if a code has been released really isn't an option for me during my trips so I leave that work to a Disney specialist.

We booked through DU and it's been absolutely wonderful. It will be our first time as a family and we are so excited. They have made everything so easy, and are always available whenever i've emailed with questions. All of our meals were booked so quickly and I appreciate every bit of ideas & suggestions because it's our first time.

Hope you have a wonderful time!

Hi,

I'm wondering how everyone feels about whether using a TA affects room assignments/upgrades.

-- Do you find that with a TA you are more or less likely to get a free upgrade?

-- Do you find that with a TA you are more or less likely to get a room type/ or location that you want? Do you find that these requests are easier to make through a TA?

It would be helpful for me to hear from folks who've done it both ways and how your experiences compare. I'm most interested to hear specifically about your experiences at Y&BC/other Deluxe resorts. But don't let that stop you -- it's enjoy reading replies from anyone!

I've stayed at the BC about 10 times and I've never used a TA. I always book my room/package myself, over the phone. The only request I ever make is to have a room above the 1st floor (after a not-so-pleasant critter invasion the one and only time we stayed on the 1st floor -- never again!). I've been upgraded two times: once to a "deluxe" room (that's the one that's got additional square footage) and once to Concierge/5th floor (and wowzer!, that was for 28 nights!). I've never asked for an upgrade, but I may try this year, just to see. It can't hurt, right?

About half the times I've stayed at the BC, I have gone back down to the desk to make a courteous request to change our room after seeing it -- sometimes to request something closer to the elevator, and sometimes to change to something with a full-sized balcony (I think those little 2 foot-by-2 foot balconies are terrible!). They've accommodated me every time except once. That time, the hotel as booked solid, but they offered to switch me to a "better" room a couple days later. I passed because I didn't feel like doing the unpacking/packing/unpacking on a fairly short stay. Other times I've agreed to this, since we were there long enough.

Huh. I sure am long-winded...

I guess I'm just wondering if I'd have a better chance of getting a preferable room (as in, I really don't want to look at dumpsters) if I used a TA.

Please let me know what you think! Share your opinions and experiences!

Thank you!!
-dannie
