Sorry if this has been posted, and by now, I'm sure everyone already knows about the Meyer Werft Webcam here.

Now, I'm sure by now you have also seen a couple of the renderings of the front of the ship. Some with the round portholes...some with smooth glass all the way across the front. Well, comparing the last two webcam shots reveal that the smotth flat glass is what it is.. The picture before the last showed the round portholes, but it seems that is just to provide the porthole view when lookin out from the inside..

Again, sorry if this was posted elsewhere...

Have you also noticed that the AIDA webcam picture has been updated, but the Dream hasn't? That tells me they don't want you to see something. :)

Thats what if figured too. I emailed the webmaster today to see if its just a technical glitch or something. I'm guessing they're loading in some more Magical surprises. pirate:

The live webcam (updates every few seconds) isn't updating as well.

Theres a live webcam!!!!! Do you have the link? I've only seen the one with Meyer Werft that is supposed to update weekly, but up until know has been updating every other week. pirate:

The Dreams cam usually updates on late Tues to early Weds.US time.

Hmmm... I look at it every day just to see if they decided to update early or something and it's always been every other week late monday night. at least for me. We may not be looking at the same website. pirate:

Its possible that they enclosed most of the glass inside the walls. Flat glass is easier to make than circular glass. pirate:

EDIT: Ohh wait i see now that the flat glass came later. hmm... well then i'm not sure. it's possible the look they wanted from the outside was the flat glass all the way accross but from the inside they wanted the port holes.

The glass on the bow like that makes her look ever more beautiful...I don't think any other ship has glass windows like that? Correct me if I'm wrong. :)

Nope your'e right. most ships have distinct portholes in the front which to me don't look good. pirate:

Someone posted a link yesterday from a poster over at another website ( http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2508009 ). They had pics of a tour taken at the shipyard, and in the photos they are putting the pane-looking glass over the rounded "portholes." Since a few are already covered, and a few aren't, it's pretty easy to see how they're doing it. I guess they did it this way to give a sleek look from the outside, and didn't do a full pane window from the inside for....errr...strength? Cabin temperature and light control? No idea, but it's interesting to see technically it was correct both ways in the different pre-build drawings ;)

FWIW: I also made a point of always checking the webcam on Mondays to see the updated views. I also wondered if they'd stopped the updates to keep a few things mysterious :thumbsup2

Just guessing here, but perhaps the flat front, not only looks nice, but also as a maintenance item, it's easier to clean the flat front than to have someone on a bosuns chair go from porthole to porthole. A reason perhaps that they did not put glass all the way inside as well is maybe either strength as a pp stated or to avoid that greenhouse effect with all that sunlight coming straight in.
