Dream vs. Dream

We are doing Disney Dream this year and Carnival Dream this year! Can't wait to compare the two! I KNOW which one I will like better...still fun to compare.
We were on the Carnival Dream in December. There is no comparison whatsoever! Carnival will go through your luggage and abscond any and all alcohol in your luggage, forcing you to buy their inflated price drinks on board. I prefer the DCL method on this.
Service between the ships is no comparison. When Carnival starts a buffet, it starts at the time or up to 10 minutes late, Disney, from my own observation, they start their buffets a little early or on time at the latest. This is most pronounced for the morning breakfast buffets for the early risers who want a coffee and bagel while watching the sun come up.

I have sailed on the Glory, Sensation 3 times and the Fantasy of Carnival lines. The food on all three of the ships is much better than what the DCL restaurants put out. I can't compare Remy or Palo since I don't pay for food twice on any ship. If you haven't cruised anything but DCL than you have no reason to scorn any other cruise lines. I have sailed primarily RCL, Carnival and DCL (3 times) and cannot seem to rate DCL above the other two although it is a nice cruise aboard beautiful ships, but just lacking in a whole lot of things to do while cruising. The DCL cruise is a little boring unless you just want to lay around.

I have seen the DCL in harbor many times and never have looked at it with great awe. It is just another cruise ship with cool lines. Of course I can say the same for most cruise ships.

But I have now cruise both CCl and DCL. And I do agree with you about the food and CCL, except for the pay fro restaurants. Also Castaway Cay's food was better than CCL private island. Anyway, was actually found more to do on DCL than CCL, and for us, unless you wanted to gamble, play bingo, or drink and lay out, CCL was dull. That being said, CCL wasn't as bad as it is often made out to be either. We do rate DCL above CCL, and I don't think we will be trying another cruise line, but than again, we don't see anything that great about cruises to begin with. So, in the end, I agree with you on some points, but disagree on others.

Edd you talk about how good Johnny Rockets burger and onion rings are and you have to pay to dine there on RCCL so in affect you are paying twice:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Carnival tells you up front that they do not allow you to bring alcohol on board their ships if your booze was confiscated that is your fault. Also I have found Carnivals alcohol prices to be inline with Disney s and RCCLs

The RCL burger is different than the Johnny Rockets burger completely. You can't decorate the RCI burger, not much variety, like you can the JR burger. I have never seen onion rings, love to snack on them, on the RCL buffet or regular dinner meals. All you can eat for $4.95 not including the milkshakes. Just ate at JR's at Yankee Stadium, spent three times as much for 3 times less food, last Sunday and it wasn't as good as on the cruise.

In many cases the drinks aboard the RCI and Carnival are cheaper than DCL. I do like to gamble and enjoy the entertainment they provide on the Carnival and the RCI's. I have out grown the DCL entertainment. I saw Chicago, Jersey Boys and Sister's Act in New York last week. Great shows with very professional dancers and singers. My style.

We found more to do on DCL, for what we like to do, than we found to do on RCCL Freedom! We have sailed RCCL, Carnival and DCL!

Edd.. sorry to disagree with you again but I just got off the Carnival Liberty ( on Sat.) and have the drink menu right here in front of me and I also have the drink menu from my last DCL cruise (March 2011) right here also and the prices are the same or very close when it comes to beer prices or mixed drinks and in fact specialty drinks. So I do not know where you are getting your misinformation from:confused3:confused3:confused3 I can not comment on RCCL since I do not have one of their menu's.

Don't mind it a bit if you disagree with me on the drink prices. A lot depends on what your drink. I don't usually check the prices out close because I usually use the OBC to pay for the drinks. However I could be a drunk if I used the difference in the cruise prices between a DCL cruise and any other cruise. I just cannot justify the difference, in price, with the activities and entertainment aboard a DCL compared to what the other cruise lines offer.

No, the RCCL hamberger is not horrible. It is the same as the DCL hamburger, but the JR burger compared with the onion rings, french fries and milkshake is the best you can get on any cruise, by far. It is a great lunch after spending the morning playing basketball, volleyball, surfing (flow-rider), climbing the big rock wall, swimming in the pools, enjoying the whirlpool or just laying out. You don't have to change to go into the dining rooms.

I also noted that there were other threads that I found, not all of them here, that mentioned the "drink of the day" tended to be less expensive on their DCL cruise than on their "other" cruise.

Could be the reason the drinks may be lower on the DCL because they charge so much for the cruise compared to the other cruise lines. They have to give you a break somewhere besides the free coke machine.

We actually liked our CCL Ecstasy cruise over our RCCL Freedom cruise. Have you sailed RCCL? If so, any thoughts between those two.

Some body here brought up the fact that drinks on DCL are more than on the "other" cruise lines. Took about 5 minutes searching on the internet to discover that the drink prices on DCL as compared to the "other" cruise lines are very competitive if not actually cheaper.

Because of the retro design with the stacks and black hull, it is NOT ‘just another cruise ship’. It is fundamentally different than almost every cruise ship currently sailing. And it turns heads. Again, I’ve been pulled into and out of about 20 different ports on Disney and I stand out on the verandah and listen and watch people looking at the Disney ship. Now part of that is because I sailed on the maiden Med cruise and the maiden Baltic cruise and so it was a novelty for the locals to see such a unique cruise ship and one associated with Disney. People came out to catch of glimpse of Mickey standing on the deck waving to all the people who came out to see the Disney ship.

I have pulled out of Port Canaveral, Nassau and some of the Mexican ports on the DCL several times and watched with awe the other ships pulling out or in. More modern in design. All cruise ships are beautiful to me. If anything the DCL reminds me of the older ships or maybe the passenger liners of the early 1900's. I am not in love with smoke stacks. I am not a traditional type person. I don't think it is the cruise ship that people in awe with, but the Disney name. If the DCL brand was on any other creuise ship many would look at for the same reasons they look at the DCL ships.

So to me looks is not the reason I cruise. What is inside the cruise ship means more to me because it is my home for 3 - 7 days.

As a DCL fan, it is the ship, and what there is to do on board, and not the Disney name, at least for us!
